SPL Coffee Dry Kapp

Coffee Los Angeles

“Spill the beans” sounds like something a G-Man would say to gangster under hot lights in the ’20s. In modern Koreatown, SPL Coffee is a cool new cafe in Ardmore Plaza featuring a neon sign that encourages customers to “spill the beans.”

The glass-fronted space touts a grey color palette and a vivid mural from local street artists Cache (chickens) and Atlas (cats). Notable gear includes a two-group, cream colored La Marzocco espresso machine, Luxus batch brewer, and coffee sourced from Lightwave Coffee, a small-batch roaster in downtown Los Angeles.

Jonathan, one of three partners, was behind the bar and suggested their Dry Kapp ($4). This is not a traditional dry cappuccino, which has less steamed milk and more foam. Instead, SPL Coffee’s dry kapp involves an iced and shaken espresso sweetened with house simple syrup and topped with foam. Stir with a steel stirrer to fully integrate flavors.
