Audrey Irmas Pavilion hosted BagelFest West on April 12 in Los Angeles in partnership with Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Jewish Food Lab. BagelFest Founder, Sam Silverman, built on New York City success and curated some of the best Southern California bagel bakers, plus some outliers, in the modern Koreatown space. BagelFest West also featured four bagel industry panels upstairs with topics like “What Is a California Bagel?” Panelist Eric Greenspan, who was preparing to open Mish Deli, said this is what happens “when you unburden yourself from the burden of tradition.”
The U.S. has experienced a bagel boom in the past decade. We now have too many good bagel options just in Southern California to fit in the pavilion. Hopefully this event returns and grows so they can showcase even more bagel makers.
