Fishing With Dynamite Pretty Thai For a White Guy

Sandwich Los Angeles

This fusion Fishing With Dynamite sandwich has Thai in the name, but eats like Vietnamese banh mi.

It takes considerable talent to make me think of The Offspring and smile. However, that’s exactly what David LeFevre accomplished at Fishing With Dynamite with his delicious riff on the band’s laughable 1998 hit, “Pretty Fly (for a White Guy).” Thankfully, at the chef’s modern, seafood-focused restaurant in Manhattan Beach, Pretty Thai For a White Guy ($13) contains significantly more pork, and is infinitely more palatable and well balanced.

Bread is always vital to a sandwich’s success, and this Fishing With Dynamite fusion sandwich starts with a bun that’s produced two doors down at sister restaurant, Manhattan Beach Post, and is more than up for the challenge. They steam the bread to achieve fluffiness and bake it to achieve a crisp crust. On goes the juicy pork patty that spiced with Kaffir lime and Thai chiles, studded with plump Mexican white shrimp, and sports a winning sear. Refreshing mint leaves, shaved red onions, crunchy carrots and pungent sambal join the fray. LeFevre (the white guy) and his crew slice the sandwich in half and separate the remaining sides with thick shrimp chips that are actually house-made and resemble boat sails, but taste far better.

Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.
