On October 21, public health professor Gev Kazanchyan is once again teaming with Dave “The Geuzehound” Watrous (Steingarten LA, Beachwood BBQ & Brewing) and chef/author Randy Clemens (The Sriracha Cookbook, The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.). For Dionicess IX, the ninth installment of the beer-focused culinary event series, they’ve recruited market-driven bartender Matt Biancaniello to craft beer cocktails at Steingarten LA. Clemens is serving vegetarian dishes after each cocktail, which they’re not calling pairings, but are designed to complement the food.
On September 3, the boozy brain trust met at Casa Kazanchyan to collaborate on possible cocktails after enjoying an eastern Mediterranean meal of foul, hummus, mamounia and Cornelian cherry brandy. Since Biancaniello is so focused on fresh produce, the conversation kept turning to the seasons. The organizers are trying to keep the menu on the down low until the day of the event, as elements will likely change, but we can confirm that a bunch of the beer cocktails may never be seen again, including infusions, reductions, barrel-aged beers and next level micheladas.
Dionicess IX is part of the 3rd Annual LA Beer Week, begins on October 21 at 7 p.m. and costs $65 per person, with only 30 available seats and no walk-ins. All proceeds benefit Real Medicine Foundation, an organization that provides humanitarian support to people living in disaster, post-war and poverty stricken areas. Tickets are available at midnight on Monday, September 12.
