Michelangelo relocated from Silver Lake Reservoir's opposite shore.

Chef Giuseppe Stifano and brother Antonio Stifano plan to soft open Michelangelo in the former Flor Morena space on Friday, September 5. The brothers ran their Italian restaurant for 10 years near Spaceland, but were forced to relocate after their their lease ended.

The vacant Flor Morena space was prized due to its prime location and parking lot. Giuseppe said he and his brother were able to beat out 45 other bidders. He credited factors like a “good reputation for 10 years,” “good credit” and “a lot of regular customers.”

Antonio was in charge of décor, including the sign and a mirrored, carpet-like wall-hanging that dominates the main section of a compartmentalized dining room.

The space is drastically different from its Flor Morena days. A tan and brown color scheme gives way to a gated patio and plenty of greenery.

Inside, expect plenty of dark wood, pottery, art and chandeliers.

Giuseppe said it’s basically the same menu, with some extra items: “two or three more pastas, steak, veal, a couple new pizzas, homemade burrata.” Two new pastas will be linguine vongole and pappardelle Domenico made using his mother’s recipe, with sausage and cream.

The Stifanos also plan to offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, which never happened at the old location. Giuseppe predicts “sandwiches, eggs, frittata.”
