This week, Brew & You columnist Sean Inman made the trek down to Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach to sample some rarely seen beers from Italy. READ INMAN’S ITALIAN BEER FEST RECAP.
Gabe Gordon still has a number of beers leftover from the Seal Beach bar’s Italian Beer Fest, including Super Baladin from Birrificio Le Baladin; Chimer from Del Ducato; Chiostro from Piccolo Birrificio; Tosta from Birrificio Pausa Cafe; Stella Di Nitale from Birrificio Troll; and Taquamari from Birrificio Pausa Cafe. As always, you’re able to see Beachwood BBQ’s current 24-tap menu via HOP CAM.
According to Blue Palms proprietor Brian Lenzo, “For American Craft Beer Week [May 17-23], we will have a Firestone World Beer Cup Night with All Medal winners and Parabola also a Ballast Point Night night with Sculpin on the Cask, Sculpin on the Tap and Sculpin on the Randall. We will also have Sea Monster and a few others. Cheers!”

According to The Surly Goat and Verdugo Bar co-owner Ryan Sweeney, who curates the beer list, BoHo now features Firestone Walker Solace and Goose Island Matilda.
Phil McGovern’s Santa Monica bar now features Dogfish Head Aprihop, Ryan Sullivan’s Imperial Stout from Moylan’s, Dogfish/Victory/Stone Saison du BUFF and, on cask, Stone Arrogant Bastard with American oak.
According to co-owner Jeff Ellermeyer, “We are pouring Cismontane at el prado, the only bar in Los Angeles.”

Last night, the latest beers at Sang Yoon’s Helms Bakery gastropub consisted of Unibroue Apple Ephemere, Avery Salvation, Lost Abbey 10 Commandments, Green Flash Imperial IPA, Stone Imperial Russian Stout, Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Green Flash Trippel and New Belgium Eric’s Ale.
According to co-owner Jason Bernstein, “In terms of “new stuff” i think that the biggest beer we have is some Barrel Aged Old Blarney Barleywine from Moylans. It’s big and boozy but has some finesse too. We should be tapping a keg of Firestone’s Velvet Merkin as well.”
According to Ladyface rep Robyn Britton, “The Ladyface Cask of the Week, “Sugar Maple Shuffle”, features our coffee porter infused with AAA grade Vermont maple syrup. Not as sweet as you might think, it pairs well with the spicy chicken habanero sausage on our Sausage Platter and the Filet Mignon au Poivre.
Ladyface is celebrating American Craft Beer Week with a great lineup Made in the USA – Ladyface IPA, Tripel, Wit and Porter, Oskar Blues Gordon and Mama’s Little Yella Pils, Bootlegger’s Brewery Knuckle Sandwich, Lost Abbey Judgement Day, Port Wipeout IPA, Green Flash LeFreak, Russian River Blind Pig IPA, North Coast Old Rasputin, Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere Fresh Hop Ale, The Bruery’s Mischief, and Ommegang Hennepin Saison. Some will be on by the weekend; everything will be on tap Monday.”
According to sustainability manager Tom Kelley, “We will have Brasserie Caracole’s Saxo, Triple Karmeliet, Urthel Hop-it, Moinette Blonde, Witcap Pater Brune, and Duchess de Bourgogne all on deck for the weekend. As soon as one goes out, another gets on. IPA’s this weekend will be Kern River Just Outstanding, Lagunitas, Union Jack, and Green Flash.”
Through May 25, Library Alehouse is hosting their Belgian Beer Festival. Guests can purchase a logo Chimay glass for $15 and refill it with one of the 8 rotating Belgian handles for only $5 during the entire two weeks of the festival.
Library Alehouse is featuring a Belgian Beer Dinner on May 18 at 6 PM, hosted by Wine Warehouse import specialist Larry James. The $50 dinner consists includes 5 courses with beer pairings, a logo Chimay glass and “other goodies.” Here’s the menu:

According to Lisa Brandley, the manager at Lucky Baldwin’s eastern outpost, new beers since last Thursday include Enami Tripel, Sam Adams Noble Pils and Pink Killer vegetable beer.
According to The Surly Goat co-owner Ryan Sweeney, they’ve got a cask of The Bruery Trade Winds Tripel with Citra hops and several beers on tap, including Stone/Dogfish Head/Victory Saison Du BUFF and Rogue Double Mocha Porter. Scaldis and Hair of the Dog Fred are on deck.
On May 18 at 7 PM, The Surly Goat is tapping a keg of Parabola, Firestone Walker’s Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. They’ll also add Union Jack and a cask of unfiltered Double Barrel, and Firestone Walker cicerone Jace Milstead will be in the house.
According to 38 Degrees co-owner Clay Harding, “These will all appear on tap sometime this weekend: Kiuchi Brewery’s Hitachino White, Allagash Curieux, Alesmith Speedway Stout, Racer 5, Kern River Just Outstanding IPA, Lost Coast Fog Cutter Barleywine, Firestone Walker Solis and Bourbon barrel aged Angel’s Share. Sculpin should be on next week!”
According to Tuesday night’s update from manager Paige Reilly, “Since our grand opening yesterday, we still have on bourbon barrel aged Angel’s Share, Marin Brass Knuckle, Ballast Point Ginger Big Eye and Hangar 24 IPA. YUMMY! To look forward to: Hop-15, Victory at Sea, North Coast Pranqster, and Mad River Drop Dread Red.”
According to Verdugo Bar co-owner Ryan Sweeney, new beers on draught include Stone/Dogfish Head/Victory Saison du BUFF, New Belgium Biere de Mars, North Coast Old No. 38, Rogue John John Dead Guy. Next week look for beers honoring Avery and New Belgium anniversaries.
