Frequency Coffee Broadway [CLOSED]

Coffee Los Angeles

Even though Compelling & Rich founder Kian Abedini roasts his own coffee in the Arts District, he uses Frequency Coffee to showcase different roasters at Gelateria Uli in downtown’s Spring Arcade. The results are often different, and sometimes surprising.

Abedini, a Diamond Bar native, can normally be found behind Gelateria Uli’s marble counter alongside a three-group La Marzocco espresso machine and vac pots. He features a small menu of artisan toasts, along with brewed coffee and the occasional specialty beverage. He recently featured The Broadway ($4.25), which references the building’s western border.

The drink combines a long-pulled double espresso, shaken with Fee’s cherry bitters, orange blossom water, ice and a splash of condensed milk. Abedini said, “I have a chef background, so I’m very cognizant of which flavors go together. Floral is one of my favorite notes found in coffee.” He also has Iranian heritage, thus the aromatic orange blossom water. He added, “Condensed milk makes everything better.” Well, I might not want condensed milk on my steak or in my IPA, but for the most part, he’s right, especially in this case, where the milk’s sweetness balances beautifully with the aforementioned floral notes and bitterness.
