On July 23, Eater LA editor Kat Odell reports that Westfield Topanga Mall Gets Exotic Ice Cream Via L.A. Creamery, with milk from Straus Family Creamery, a design from George Kelly Architects and leadership from former Pizzeria Mozza GM Sharon Aronson.

On July 22, Eater LA editor Kat Odell breaks news that Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto Headed to LA! Plans First Ever Non-Asian Concept Named Live in Hollywood. The karaoke-loving Japanese chef has partnered with designer Thomas Schoos and has tapped executive chef Troy N. Thompson to execute the “affordable ‘market cuisine’ that centers around a live, custom-built Brazilian-style rotisserie and grill with a full-on wood burning oven.”

Food Marathon

On July 22, Mr. Food Marathon investigates Casa’s New School Flavor, declaring carnitas the best dish from new chef Alex Moreno. He declares “Succulent pork, on top of smaller pieces of pork is really the only way pork should be served.”

The Glutster

On July 20, glutster Javier Cabral recounts his experience on a Day Trip to Tijuana Seafood Festival, where he gorged on Baja fish tacos, paella, tostada de ceviche local, young fresh coconut and stuffed churros.

On July 20, Squid Ink contributor Christie Bishop reports that Chicago’s Mr. Beef Opens on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, touting “paper-thin beef dripping under the weight of savory jus.”

On July 21, Stick A Fork In It contributor Dave Lieberman also reported on a Tijuana trip in a post titled Eating Tijuana. He hypes ceviche verde de tres almejas at Erizo Cebicheria and chicharrón de queso at Tacos Salceados, to name just two tastes.

On July 21, Street Gourmet LA founder Bill Esparza writes about Tamales Elena in a post titled Guerreran Tamales in the New Watts, “a traditionally African-American neighborhood that has experienced a huge influx of Mexicans and Central Americans.”
