On February 7, Caroline on Crack founder Caroline Pardilla shares Drunk Lessons From Playboy’s Dan “The Imbiber” Dunn, who “manages to balance the debauchery you only dream of (which inevitably includes strippers, porn stars and some of the country’s top bartenders) with writing for Playboy, hosting his Imbiber podcast and writing a book.”
On February 9, e*starLA founder Esther Tseng declares The Royce Delivers Elegantly Vibrant Dishes at The Langham, Pasadena and describes sommelier Eric Espuny’s wine pairings as “perfect” during her recent five-course dinner.
In her February 7, Eater LA editor Kat Odell reports that Taberna Mexicana Brings Modern Mexicana to Beverly Hills, specifically, to the former home of Luau, complete with a Boulevard alum, by mid-April.
On February 9, Squid Ink contributor Jessica Ritz illuminates her Top 5 Old School Indie L.A. Health Food Stores, including places like Nature Mart in Los Feliz and One Life Natural Food on the border of Santa Monica and Venice, which touts “the healing energy of the beach.”
On February 9, Squid Ink contributor Jenn Garbee reports on a New Brewery: Ventura’s Surf Ranch to Open This Spring, which will be housed in a former industrial warehouse about three miles from Surfers Point.
Matthew “Mattatouille” Kang implores readers to Go Now: Lukshon. He calls the spicy chicken pops “addictive and fun to eat,” says the yellow curry noodles are “terrific” and declares dan dan mien a “revelation.” He also has praise for the space, designed by Ana Henton and MASS Architecture, which he considers “slick, modern, dark, yet filled with small details that delight the diner.”
On February 7, Street Gourmet LA founder Bill Esparza posted about his initial experience at Mision 19 in Tijuana, which he calls “perhaps the most important restaurant in Mexico right now” before describing “the only farm to table restaurant rooted in Baja and Alta California.” He regales readers with tales of “gossamer thin strip of beef tongue bursting with Iberian flavors” and a “deconstructed dessert tamale” with pan seared Sonoma County foie gras, and “fine Mexican cheeses accompanied by housemade condiments,” to name just three plates.
On February 9, Thirsty in LA founder Daniel Djeng provided the first look at Playa, and the restaurant’s cocktail program, in a post titled Let’s Get This Party Started. He shares photos and descriptions of drinks like The Spice Trade and bespoke cocktails like El Rodeo.
