NOIR is shooting for the total package of wine and food near The Ice House in Pasadena.

Mike Farwell opened Red Carpet Wine Bar in Glendale, Wine Bar 112 at Restaurant Halie and co-created Vertical Wine Bistro in Old Town Pasadena. Now he’s partnered on a new wine bar concept called NOIR, which he hopes to open with Alex Gallego of Alex & Friends and chef Claud Beltran on June 26.

“I always felt Pinot Noir was the best wine by the glass,” says Farwell. “My first concept was to only serve Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but that’s risky.” Farwell decided to set up shop in Pasadena, down the block from The Ice House comedy club, since he lives nearby and loves the atmosphere.

Farwell hired architect Steve Dahl and designer Jane Burbank to mold the former home of the McDuffie Liz consignment shop. The décor will be “New Orleans eclectic,” with warm colors and a large patio to help enjoy fresh air year-round.

As for the food and drink, Farwell said, “Noir Café & Wine Bar will emphasize local fresh cuisine and a wonderful selection of wines.” Chef Beltran (Madeleines, Restaurant Halie, Cayo, Dickinson-West) has built a menu of New Orleans-inspired, wine-friendly small plates. Expect options like Red Snapper Sauteed in Brown Butter and Garlic ($18), Summer Gumbo of the Day ($10), Wild Boar Chili Verde ($18) with white bean ragout and roasted chayote squash. NOIR will also stock fromage, charcuterie and Bulgarini Gelato.
