The Hermosillo, a neighborhood beer bar in Highland Park from Ross Stephenson, Michael Blackman and Dustin Lancaster, continues to add elements, including beer-friendly bar food and special offerings. On July 11, Stephenson featured Hangar 24 Craft Brewery Helles Lager as the base for several different shandys, a refreshing summer beverage that traditionally combines beer with either lemonade or ginger beer. Stephenson took the notion further, sourcing specialty sodas from nearby Galco’s Old World Grocery including classic Jic Jac Lemon Lime, Mr. Q Cumber and my choice, Empire Spruce Beer. The drink kind of tasted like he dipped a pine tree into the aromatic Munich-style lager, and I liked it.
