Cooks County Grilled Pork Loin Sandwich [CLOSED]

Daniel Mattern and Roxana Jullapat are a powerhouse duo. Just look at their pork loin sandwich for proof.

Daniel Mattern and pastry chef Roxana Jullapat opened Cooks County with Claudio Blotta and Adria Tennor Blotta. The couple clearly has a handle on seasonal California comfort food.

One of their latest collaborations came together seamlessly on my plate at lunch. Mattern provided premium ingredients to fill Jullapat’s crusty house-baked bread. For the Grilled Pork Loin Sandwich ($13), the lean meat arrived plenty juicy with crisp shaved fennel, arugula, spicy Calabrian chilies, creamy aioli and subtly sweet apricot chutney. They serve each sandwich with a generously-dressed arugula and radicchio salad.

Did not know they were open for lunch, not that I am in that area frequently at that time of day.

Cooks County’s pork loin sandwich would be worth a special trip over the hill for lunch. So would Roxana’s desserts.
