I just ate at Wild Olive, the new Italian restaurant on Johns Island, South Carolina, from the owners of the Fat Hen. It was an overall good experience–a lively, attractive scene, good versions of classic northern Italian dishes, and friendly, knowledgeable service. Of course we ordered a bunch of different things to see how they would do. The artichoke app was terrific, the fried calamari pretty good, a cavatelli with sausage pasta dish was outstanding, and our mains–chicken under a brick, veal, tuna, and chicken cacciatore were uniformly fine. Of the two desserts we tried, the chocolate and pistachio pudding concoction was the winner. The Wild Olive, already mobbed, will become a regular stop.
