Hamburger Los Angeles

June 15, 2012 - I didn’t know this until lunch, but Border Grill makes a unique chile relleno burger with ground black angus brisket, romaine, chipotle aioli and a crispy poblano stuffed with Manchego, panela and cotija cheeses on brioche.

Every week involves a seemingly continuous stream of food, drinks and people. Of course not every taste or conversation is post-able, but the range of experiences is usually pretty amazing. Discover favorites from June 11 – 17, 2012, some of which will help to fuel full posts.

Bread Los Angeles

June 14, 2012 – At Got Kosher?, chef-owner Alain Cohen makes his family’s Tunisian dishes, which he remembers from his Paris youth, along with a unique bread hybrid: pretzel challah. The compelling mash-up’s available by the loaf or roll.

Fish Tacos Los Angeles

June 17, 2012Eat, Drink + Be Merry founder Dylan Ho turned us on to Pescadores de Ensenada. Pedro Montes has been a truck driver for Pepsi for the past 23 years, and he teamed with a mustachioed fry man who works construction, and third man who’s a barber. They make fish tacos at the Downey farmers market on Saturday, and Atwater Village on Sunday. They cradle lightly battered basa in griddled corn tortillas and turn customers loose on a condiment bar. I chose cabbage, chipotle crema and a salsa of tomato and chile de arbol.

Donuts Los Angeles

June 17, 2012 – I chased SGV Chinese food with donuts from Uncle Joe’s, including a glazed raised and a glazed old fashioned.

Cocktails Los Angeles

June 17, 2012 – Daniel Djang and Zahra Bates organized Art Beyond the Glass, a charitable cocktail and art blowout at Sadie. As part of the festivities, Cari Hah and Jaymee Mandeville paired their Lil’ Twisted Sangritas with 123 tequila: 123 Añejo teamed with a blend of orange, lime, pomegranate molasses and four kinds of dried chilies; and 123 Blanco joined watermelon, habanero, coriander, cilantro and lime pith.
