Stalking Horse West Pico Pale Ale

Craft Beer Los Angeles

Artisanal Brewers Collective, the hard-charging company from Tony Yanow and his business partners, are gradually dotting L.A. with a series of neighborhood beer bars and brewpubs. They replaced Steingarten LA with The Stalking Horse Brewery and Freehouse and upgraded pretty much every aspect of the guest experience. Director of Culinary Trevor Faris and kitchen manager John Amaro now serve Cornish comfort food, including many different savory pies. The upgraded space touts an animal-filled countryside hill, and a brewhouse in back.

Noah Regnery previously brewed at Hollister Brewing and Pizza Port Solana Beach before joining Artisanal Brewers Collective. He brought in Brandon Edwards, who worked nearby at Pizza Port Solana Beach. Until they get the Stalking Horse brewhouse online in Rancho Park, they’ve been brewing at The Bell Marker, the company’s downtown San Diego brewpub.

I enjoyed all four of the Artisanal Brewers Collective beers I tried as part of my flight, but their West Pico Pale Ale, earmarked for Stalking Horse, was a particular standout. The 5% ABV English-style pale ale of course paired naturally with the food and lived up to the “earthy, herbal hop character” billing.
