For some people, a spa day involves a deep-tissue massage, facial, mani-pedi, a quick schvitz, and a cup of ice-cold cucumber water. The good people at Port Brewing in San Marcos have a far different, no-frills definition of SPA.
I recently enjoyed a pint of Port Brewing SPA (Summer Pale Ale) at The Surly Goat in West Hollywood during “Surly Hour.” This well-balanced, easy sipping West Coast IPA clocks 6% ABV and contains six types of hops: Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe. The fruity, rust-colored beer has a pleasant bite and warrants multiple pours over the course of an afternoon. As the website says, “Life’s better at the water’s edge.” Or apparently West Hollywood, paired with tacos.
