Mom & Bop is a family-run Korean Asian Kitchen located across Pico Boulevard from Santa Monica College. They’re off to a strong start in a strip mall called Pico Center that also houses Rocco’s Cheesecake and SaMo Pizza. Not just students will benefit from Mom & Bop.
Mom & Bop chef Michelle Yum’s mix-and-match menu specializes in salads and bowls, but customers will also find appetizers like pastrami kimchi rolls, shishito peppers with yuzu sesame, and dumplings in chile oil. I was torn between Fat Belly, Bomb Galbi, and Wake Up Breakfast. I ultimately opted for the richest, most photogenic selection.
Fat Belly ($12.95) features meaty marinated pork belly, a protein that would be devastating on its own. Thankfully, Chef Yum complements tender pork slabs with mixed greens, sweet corn, julienne carrots, edamame, crunchy cucumber kimchi, crispy onions, punchy kimchi chimichurri, and sesame seeds. Each bowl comes with a choice of base. Do you prefer kale, brown rice, purple rice, or glass noodles with your fat belly? I suggest hearty rice stained purple with colorful grains. Sliced soy-pickled egg ($1) with a soft, sticky yolk is the only Mom & Bop supplement worth considering.
Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.

This looks fantastic. I’m going to try to make my own version since I don’t live in that area!
