Los Angeles Restaurant Weekend Specials

GUIDE CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE

Weekends in a 9 to 5 world are sweet, sweet bliss, and that’s especially true in Los Angeles. The city swells with people looking to have a good time, and restaurants put out their best during these busiest few days. Many restaurants offer dishes reserved especially for the weekend—sometimes because the dishes require hours to cook, other times for tradition, but mostly in the spirit of rest and relaxation with family and friends. We’ve gathered up 17 of LA’s best weekend specials for meals worthy of those precious Saturdays and Sundays, listed in alphabetical order.

Roma Italian Deli

There are loving odes across the Internet dedicated to “the sandwich,” a simple yet perfect combination of meat, cheese, olive oil and bread served daily at Roma Italian Deli in Pasadena. On Saturdays and Sundays only, the small Italian deli sells giant fluffy loaves of their famous olive oil bread, which is perfect for building sandwiches, or as a stand-alone snack. -PM

Sotto [CLOSED]

Italian Food Los Angeles

On Sunday nights, this southern Italian restaurant in Beverlywood from chefs Steve Samson and Zach Pollack features Sardinia inspired porcetto. The duo seasons succulent slabs of belly with Kosher salt, rosemary, thyme, sage and garlic. The skin gets crispy in boiling oil, and fennel pollen is the finishing spice. Seasonal accompaniments may include black plum mostarda. -JL (Photo courtesy of Sauce LA)

Superba Food & Bread

Fried Chicken Los Angeles

This chic Venice bakery-café is another restaurant that serves nightly specials. On Sunday nights, Jason Travi features fried chicken with a crispy, slightly spicy, reddish orange coat crafted with black pepper, cayenne, and paprika. The chicken luxuriates in peanut oil, “the only game in town,” according to Travi. The half-chicken comes with a collard green slaw with shaved carrots, mustard seeds, prunes, and tangy vinaigrette; and a drop biscuit from star pastry chef Lincoln Carson. -JL

Taylor’s Steakhouse

Nothing says “America” quite like a steakhouse, and Taylor’s Steakhouse in Koreatown has been one of L.A.’s best since 1953. They offer daily special dinner options. Saturday brings filet mignon Bordelaise and roast rack of New Zealand spring lamb; and Sunday calls for filet Oscar and chicken fried steak. -PM

Uncle Darrow’s [MOVED to Carson]

Cajun Food Los Angeles

Weekend meals usually fight for a balance between outstanding taste and lively atmosphere, and at Uncle Darrow’s, there’s no need to compromise. The Venice restaurant is popular with locals and tourists alike for its authentic Louisiana fare, and on the weekends they serve up bowls of their gumbo. The gumbo is cooked for over 10 hours and includes chicken, Andouille sausage, shrimp and blue crab. -PM (Photo courtesy of Uncle Darrow’s)
