Los Angeles Restaurant Weekend Specials

GUIDE CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE

Weekends in a 9 to 5 world are sweet, sweet bliss, and that’s especially true in Los Angeles. The city swells with people looking to have a good time, and restaurants put out their best during these busiest few days. Many restaurants offer dishes reserved especially for the weekend—sometimes because the dishes require hours to cook, other times for tradition, but mostly in the spirit of rest and relaxation with family and friends. We’ve gathered up 17 of LA’s best weekend specials for meals worthy of those precious Saturdays and Sundays, listed in alphabetical order.

Miss Bun-Bo-Hue [CLOSED]

If you’re a pho regular, but haven’t ventured much into other Vietnamese noodle soups, Miss Bun-Bo-Hue in El Monte might be a good place to start. The restaurant’s namesake dish is a beef noodle soup, but on weekends they also serve Bun Rieu, a crab soup. Crab meat is cooked with flavorful tomato broth, then served with vermicelli noodles and fried tofu in a large, steaming bowl. -PM

Nick’s Cafe

Many places only offer eggs Benedict on weekends, but few are quite so proliferous as Nick’s Café and their “Great Eight”. You might be expecting the Traditional and the Florentine from this Chinatown diner, but they’ve also got the Cajun, Club, Country, Californian, West Coast, and MC (corned beef hash), available Saturday and Sunday only. If the simple indulgence of poached eggs stacked on ham stacked on toasted English muffin slices and smothered in Hollandaise sauce isn’t quite cutting it for you, maybe one of their seven other varieties will. -PM

Pizzanista!

Is there any food that captures the reckless hedonism of a youthful weekend better than pizza? Pizzanista! seems to think there can be, and for that they’ve invented their Sunday Special: the Mac and Cheese Pizza. This heavyweight tomato sauced pizza is covered in a solid layer of elbow macaroni coated with a four-cheese blend. This pie will remind you of your college cuisine in the best possible way. -PM

Pizzeria Mozza

Italian Food Los Angeles

To visit Pizzeria Mozza and ignore the non-pizza items is a tragic mistake, especially when it comes to their piatto del giorno, or dish of the day. On Saturdays, this means Pollo al Forno, two chicken thighs cooked with Chinese five-spice sausage, spicy peppers and broccolini in an intensely savory balsamic sauce. On Sundays, they offer Lasagne al Forno, layered with spinach-infused pasta, veal Bolognese sauce and Béchamel, for a comforting and delicious end to the weekend. -PM
