This Pico-Union bakery, named for a city in El Salvador, sells an American-style Breakfast Sandwich, but I prefer the Torta de Frijoles with soft bollilo-like pan Frances, refried beans, firm, savory queso fresco slab, creamy avocado and jalapeño with either banana chips or balsamic-doused side salad. Add “scrambled eggs” (a folded over omelet) and homefries.

Egg Slut – Fairfax Sandwich – Downtown, Glendale, Venice + West Hollywood

Egg-centric offerings at this beloved L.A. born breakfast chain includes the Fairfax sandwich with soft scrambled eggs, Tillamook cheddar, chives, caramelized onions and Sriracha mayo on a buttery brioche bun.

Gjelina Take Away, aka GTA, joined older sibling Gjelina on Abbot Kinney. As my friend pointed out, Fran Camaj and opening chef Travis Lett (now at nearby RVR) convinced trendy Venetians to squat on milk crates in the adjacent alley and eat like refugees. Their convincing breakfast sandwich combines fried egg, bacon, braised kale and hot sauce on a house-baked English muffin.
