When the temperature rises into the triple digits in Los Angeles, Imperial Stout is the last thing that Brew & You columnist Sean Inman likes to drink. Instead, he’s using his column this week “to sway people into drinking more of the humble session beer,” in a post titled “The (Possible) Rise of Session Beer.”

According to proprietor Brian Lenzo, “Come Celebrate Belgium Independence Day with Stone Brewery and Lost Abbey @ Blue Palms BrewHouse ~ Wednesday July 21st Starting @ 5:00 pm. We will be tapping several beers from the Stone portfolio and some limited release Lost Abbey Beers. Enjoy some amazing beer and come met the Crews from Lost Abbey & Stone!!!” The line-up includes Stone Cali Belgique, Maredsous Blonde, Maredsous 10, N’Ice Chouffe, Urthel Hop It, St Feullien Triple, St Feullien Printemps, Duvel Green, Mc Chouffe, Houblon Chouffe, La Trappe Isid’or, Konings Witte and La Grande Blanche Imperial White.

From LOST ABBEY, you’ll find Witch’s Witt, Judgment Day, Red Barn, Lost & Found, Serpent Stout and Gift of the Magi, “Plus some Specialty kegs from Tomme!!!”


According to yesterday’s update from chef-owner Tony Alcazar, “This week we are pouring Aventinus, Humulus Lager, Mikkeller I Beat U, Eagle Rock Manifesto, Oro de Calabaza, and Mad River XPA. Also, we will be pairing some very Belgian style food with some great Belgian Beers for Belgium’s Independence Day next Wednesday the 21st.”


According to bar manager Rory Snipes, “New on tap this week we have Saison Dupont, Uncommon Brewers Siamese Twin, and Schneider Edel-Weise. We also have 4 beer flights that rotate weekly and one every Thursday which includes beer from bottles, so we can all taste some new stuff. Cheers.”


According to Matthew Kaner, Covell’s Wine Director and Manager, the Los Feliz bar just sold out of Bootlegger’s Knuckle Sandwich Double IPA and The Bruery’s Seven Grain Saison. Instead, they’re now running Schneider Edel Weisse, Weihenstephaner and St. Bernardus Abt. 12. Houblon Chouffe goes live tomorrow. Anderson Valley Oatmeal Stout and Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA are on deck.


Phil McGovern’s Santa Monica bar currently features Goose Island Matilda IPA, Sierra Nevada Summerfest, Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary stout, Oskar Blues Gubna, Port 4th Anniversary Imperial IPA, Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, San Martin Abbey Ale, and on cask, Stone Pale Ale with coriander and Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous with Simcoe and Summit hops.

On July 16 from 7 PM – 2 AM, The Daily Pint is hosting Ballast Point Night, featuring Calico Amber Ale, Fathom IPL, Piper Down Scottish Ale, Ginger Big Eye IPA, Yellowtail Pale Ale and Sculpin IPA on tap, and on cask, Sculpin IPA and Brother Levonian Saison.


According to co-owner Jason Bernstein, “Here is the basic list right now. It’s basically a mini-IPA fest: Lost Abbey Devotion, Craftsman 1903, Craftsman Biere de Blanco, Bruery Mischief, Lost Abbey Devotion, North Coast Old Rasputin, Stone 14th Anniversary, Port 4th Anniversary, Drake’s Denogginizer, Oscar Blues Gubna, Firestone Union Jack. Bootlegger’s Knuckle Sandwich Double IPA coming up soon…”


According to Ladyface rep Robyn Britton, “Triple-digit heat has hit the Southland. Appropriately, the Ladyface Cask of the Week is another tripel – “Tripel au fût” – our Trois Filles aged for a month in oak. Also on tap – Ladyface IPA, Saison Sauvignon, La Blanche Wit, Trois Filles Tripel, Picture City Porter and Blind Ambition, St. Louis Gueze Fond Tradition, He’Brew Rejewvenator, Moylans Double IPA, Corsendonk Pale Ale, Port Mongo IPA, Oskar Blues Gubna imperial IPA and Mama’s Lil Pils, Belhaven Scottish Ale, Russian River Consecration, and Avery 17th Anniversary.”


According to Library Alehouse sustainability manager Tom Kelley, “We have Anchor Liberty, Avery IPA, Raging Bitch Belgian IPA, and one more keg of Sierra Nevada’s Southern Hemisphere Harvest backing up the Avery. Nice weekend for IPA’s!

Saturday is the actual date of our 15th Anniversary, and we will have raffle tickets for everyone who buys ANYTHING. Chance to win $150 gift card to the Library.

According to staffer Jamie, Christmas In July starts this Saturday, so you’ll find a lot of holiday beers, including Petrus Winter, Sierra Nevada Celebration, Alesmith Summer YuleSmith, Anchor Christmas 2009, Gouden Carolus Noel, Avec Les Bon Voeux and Affligem Noel.


According to assistant manager Martin Svab, “New goodies for this week: Lagunitas Undercover Shutdown, Meantime Scotch Ale, Meantime Porter, Stone/Dogfish Head/Victory Saison Du Buff.

On deck for the weekend: Gueze Fond Tradition, Anchor Steam, Bear Republic Racer 5, and other goodies.

Next Wednesday, July 21st, 2010, come celebrate Belgian Independence Day at Naja’s Place. We will feature over 10 different rare and tasty Belgian beers on tap, including beers from Maredsous, Ommegang, Duvel, Achouffe, Urthel, and Chimay. The evening will include cool Belgian glass promos, free giveaways, as well as great bottle specials. Start at 8pm till closing (1am).”


According to manager Pete Shuey, “We have a great new Unfiltered Hefeweizen from Bootlegger’s in Fullerton, CA. Lots of clove and banana in the nose and palate. This week we’ll also have Lagunitas’ “lucky 13” and we were able to score one more barrel of “undercover investigation shut-down” ale as well. We’ve got the St Bernardus Abt 12 back up and running after a 3 month hiatus and a great white ale from Craftsman called “Biere de Blanco.”


The Surly Goat currently features beers draught beers like Stone 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA, Alesmith YuleSmith, Russian River Damnation, Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin, Okocim Pils, Dogfish Head Sah’tea, Avery White Rascal and Telegraph Reserve Wheat.


According to co-owner Clay Harding, “Featuring 2 new Draught Flights this week, The Summer Breeze and Russian River Brewing flight including Russian River IPA, Damnation, Collaboration Not Litigation and Pliny the Elder, We also have De Proef Grande Blanche Imperial Wit, Moylan’s Kilt Lifter aged in Apple Brandy and Port wine Barrels, Le Baladin Elixir (last keg), Beer Valley’s Leafer Madness Imperial IPA, San Quentin Breakout Stout, Stone 14th Double IPA and Craftsman Orange Grove among various other styles! I forgot to include The Bruery Trade Winds Tripel and Speak Easy Big Daddy. Bottles are plentiful! What are y’all lookin” for I probably got it! Give me a ring.”


According to manager Paige Reilly, “We’ve got some great stuff on tap right now. Marin English Brown Ale on cask, Requiem Espresso Stout on nitro, YuleSmith Double IPA and a DELICIOUS Green Flash Trippel.”
