Brew & You columnist Sean Inman recently visited two new L.A. beer bars that were both disappointing. However, some good came out of the experiences, since he was inspired to write LIMITED TAP LIST SUGGESTIONS and LARGE TAP LIST RULES. He shares his advice in a post titled ”More Can Be Less.”

Blue Palms proprietor Brian Lenzo is currently curating a roster that includes Coney Island Freaktoberfest, a red lager; He’Brew Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah 13, an Imperial stout; He’Brew Rejewvenator – half doppelbock, half Belgian dubbel; Coney Island Albino Python, an American spiced pale lager; and Coney Island Swordswallower, a strong lager. Today Lenzo said, “Friday we will tap a Cask of Rum barrel aged Victory of the Sea, Dorado Double IPA, Sculpin and Velvet Merkin.”

Currently on cask: Stone IPA with Amarillo and Simcoe hops and Stone Smoked Porter with vanilla bean.

New in bottles, you’ll find Russian River Damnation (750 ml).

According to Library Alehouse Sustainability Manager Thomas Kelley, on December 29, Library Alehouse is hosting a a Holiday Brew Fest benefiting Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition. The featured brew is Mikkeller Fra Til, a holiday spiced Baltic porter. The tap lineup also includes Delirium Noel, Gouden Carolus Noel, Port Brewing’s Santa Little Helper, Sierra Celebration, Anderson Valley Winter Solstice, and in the bottle, a collaboration Holiday Ale from Stone, Jolly Pumpkin and Nogne O. Library Alehouse is also introducing a keg of Bear Republic’s Racer X at 4 PM on December 22.

According to Jamie, a staffer at Lucky Baldwin’s eastern outpost, the current draught line-up is Christmas heavy and features new options like Anderson Valley Winter Solstice, Gouden Carolus Ambrio, Pyramid Snowcap Ale, Craftsman Holiday Ale and Corsendonk Christmas. Through the end of the year, they also have two glass specials. $12 gets you a Belgian beer, the glass, and discounts on refills. $9 scores you an American-style pint glass, a glass-appropriate beer and discounts on refills.

According to Lucky Devils rep Stacy Failing, there are two special-edition beers available for the holidays: Delirium Noël, a 10% ABV Belgium Strong Dark Ale Pilsener; and Old Rasputin XII, an 11.2% ABV Russian Imperial Stout.

According to Alex Kagianaris, the co-owner of Hollywood’s newest burger-and-beer joint, “We just got in THE HOLLYWOOD BREWERY’S Director’s Cut IPA. I believe it is their initial beer sold publicly. It is found exclusively at STOUT. Malty and hoppy with hints of caramel – it is quickly becoming a favorite and moving fast. I will have the brewer out to STOUT pouring some beers and discussing his brewery this Monday and Wednesday.”

38 Degrees

According to 38 Degrees co-owner Clay Harding, “This week we will tap into A fresh keg of Sculpin just in from Ballast Point as well as a fresh Pliny the Elder, just in from Santa Rosa today. According to The York manager Mary Drenthe, “We just tapped into The Lost Abbey’s Gift of the Magi, which is a Belgian strong pale ale, and on deck for this weekend we have Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin, their seasonal oatmeal stout. We’re still offering Scaldis Noel in bottles, as well as Schoenramer Festbier, a marzen style.”
