Beer Pairing Los Angeles

Coly Den Haan from The Must pairs desserts with Firestone Walker beers.

On December 17, Coly Den Haan of The Must is hosting a dessert and beer pairing event, featuring Firestone Walker Brewery and Nectar Ales, Freshly Baked Cookies and Auntie Fruf’s Aahsome Fudge.

“The inspiration for this was an exploration of the nexus between beer and food,” says Firestone Walker rep Jace Milstead. “While wine has for years joined these two together successfully, it is only within the last few years, with pioneers like Garrett Oliver (of Brooklyn Brewing) and Sam Caligione (of Dogfish Head), where beer has been treated with the same respect as a fine wine, including the recognition as a perfect match for any number of foods.”

“When I think of the holidays, I think of beer and sweets shared with family,” adds Milstead. “What better way to celebrate my loves than to bring the two together.”

Milstead is bringing seasonal rarities like Velvet Merkin, Xantus, 13 and Walkers Reserve. Christine Hanson at Auntie Fruf’s Aahsome Fudge is bringing orange fudge and espresso fudge, and Eric Weston of Freshly Baked is contributing cookies. For $20, guests will get to taste each of the beers with a sample of the desserts.

Here are the pairings:

Nectar Ales Black Xantus, an Imperial Coffee Stout + Espresso Fudge

Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin, a 5.5% oatmeal stout + Your Mom, an oatmeal coconut chocolate chip, and I’m So Sconed, an oatmeal blueberry white & dark chocolate cookie

Pale 31, a 4.8% California Pale Ale + Orange Fudge +
Tutti Fuity Oatgasm, a peach cranberry almond oat cookie

Firestone Walker’s Reserve + Nutty Bavarian, a peanut butter chocolate pretzel; Love Biscuit; and the Foamy Honey, a peanut butter chocolate pretzel

Firestone’s Anniversary Beer, 13, a blend of barrel aged beer +
Demolicious, a dark chocolate cherry cookie

All of the treats will be available for take home purchase. The first 50 people to participate receive a complimentary Firestone or Nectar Ales glass to take home.
