Deep End Dining

On October 19, Deep End Dining founder Eddie Lin declares that Michael’s Restaurant in Santa Monica would serve his ”Last Meal” Meal, including Kumomoto oysters with Banyuls vinaigrette, grilled quail with yuzu grilled apples, house-cured gravlax with mustard-dill sauce, duck confit and more.


On October 20, e*starLA founder Esther Tseng shares her Favorite Dish: Osteria La Buca’s Osso Buco Risotto, touting the “creamy, slow-simmered richness.”

Eater LA

On October 22, Eater LA editor Kat Odell reports that Rosa Mexicano Replaces Borracho Borracho Cantina on Sunset, assuming control of a snake-bit space that previously housed Tonys Steakhouse, Crudo and Norman’s on Sunset, in quick succession.

On October 21, Eater LA editor Kat Odell reports that Food + Lab 3.0 Hits Silver Lake thanks to mother and son team Esther and Nino Linsmayer.

Gourmet Pigs

On October 19, Gourmet Pigs founder Fiona Chandra travels to the Hawaii by way of Caña Rum Bar for Kōloa: The Rum of Kaua’i. She sampled white, gold and dark rums, along with Kōloa cocktails like the Spark Plug.


On October 21, LAist co-editor Lindsay William-Ross encourages readers to Know Your (Seasonal) Farmers’ Market: Thursdays at Yamashiro, “a snug sash that wraps around the base of the historic Hollywood hilltop restaurant.”

LA Times

On October 21, LA Times contributor Sarah Karnasiewicz reveals What makes a good hash, exploring the wonders of a “leftover-stretcher born from prudence and necessity.”

LA Weekly

On October 22, Squid Ink contributor Noah Galuten recounts An Evening of Oaxacan Food with Diana Kennedy, an event designed “to promote her latest (and supposedly last) cookbook, Oaxaca al Gusto.” Food luminaries packed Loteria Grill Hollywood for dishes like beef barbacoa cooked in banana leaves.

On October 19, Squid Ink contributor Elina Shatkin touts Akasha’s Chicken Tikka Wings to Die For. I recently tried some of these wings at Taste of Beverly Hills and they were indeed spectacular.

Street Gourmet L.A.

On October 19, Street Gourmet L.A. founder Bill Esparza toots his own horn (for good reason) in a post titled Los Angeles Magazine: November 2010 Edition of Mexican Food in LA feat. Street Gourmet LA. He contributed mightily to the issue and editor Lesley Barger Suter even joins Esparza on one of his renowned street food crawls, which results in a fun taco-by-taco rundown. Grab a copy of LA mag on newsstands now. I did.
