Historic Building Hollywood

Capitol Records Building dates to 1955 in Hollywood and resembles a stack of LPs.

Movies and TV are generally not filmed “in” Hollywood, and unfortunately, nothing is “brewed” in this famous neighborhood either. And like movies and TV, you have to wade through quite a few mass-marketed, four-quadrant, ad-driven products to find the real thing. But once you do, there is a Variety of destinations for a Hollywood (Beer) Reporter.

6. Franklin & Co. [CLOSED]

This tavern comes to us courtesy of the owner of Oaks Gourmet, Greg Morris, and is nearby on Franklin Avenue. So if you feel like sitting at the bar, then you can choose this spot and test your craft beer and food pairing skills.

7. The Oaks Gourmet

This tiny little market on Franklin has a powerful and well curated beer selection and I have even found pints of beer-accented ice cream in their coolers too. A great place to pick up some to-go food to pair with the to-go bottles.

8. Stout

This is the first link in a mini-chain that is expanding around L.A. It sports a beautiful copper bar area that really showcases the taps plus you can get a great burger here. And on their patio, you can people watch on the trendy Cahuenga Boulevard.

9. The Surly Goat

West Hollywood address. But I would be remiss to not extend the boundary lines for this list. The Goat hosts too many important beer events throughout the year to be excluded. Great rotating tap list courtesy of the folks that run Verdugo Bar, Little Bear, and Blind Donkey.

10. Tender Greens

On the corner of Sunset & Vine in a veritable restaurant row with a hamburger joint and mac and cheese-irie.  This chain is heavy on, you guessed it, greens.  The leafy stuff. But they have collaborated with the LA craft beer community on a number of events including a beer with El Segundo. And they have a great back patio with greens growing that is quieter than inside.
