Ever since Tip Top Sandwiches emerged victorious in my multi-stop 2009 Little Saigon Banh Mi Bender, I’ve been enamored with their take on the ubiquitous Vietnamese style sandwiches. The now 30-year-old business debuted in Garden Grove in 1988, expanded to Rosemead in 2010, and recently added a sprawling Fountain Valley outpost with table service called Tip Top Sandwiches and Grill. Quality control has remained constant.
The business continues to bake baguettes at each location. I remain impressed with pretty much any filling that their supple, crackly coated bread cradles. This time, I opted for Tip Top’s BBQ Pork w/Lemongrass Banh Mi ($4.50) featuring caramelized strips of judiciously sweet pork, punchy pickled carrots and daikon, scallions, cilantro, and spicy jalapeño.
Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.
