Cheese Quebec

On April 2, The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills owner Norbert Wabnig and L.A.’s Quebec Government Office representatives hosted a Quebec Cheese tasting that placed a spotlight on a province that produces more than 75% of Canada’s cheese. The people of Quebec have been making cheese in the French tradition since Samuel de Champlain arrived in 1608, and Quebec now houses more than 100 cheese makers. Fromage fiends served several cheeses and complementary beer from Unibroue.

Blue Bénédictin is a blue cheese made from pasteurized cow’s milk at Fromagerie de L’Abbaye St-Benoît on Lake Memphrémagog. The abbey dates to 1912 and the Benedictine monks who run it earn a living through cheese, an orchard and cider making.

The cheese, made from 60% cow’s milk and 40% goat’s milk, is named for a nun famous in Quebec for her cooking shows, cooking lessons and charity work. A portion of proceeds from every wheel of Soeur Angèle goes to the Foundation Dignité Jeunesse, an organization that helps underprivileged youths pursue education.

This mural had nothing to do with cheese, but it was on a wall near The Cheese Store, and when a girl with purple hair is walking a pet pig, take a photo.
