Yesterday, we hit Nirvana at Peter Luger Steak House. It was better than the last two times I’ve been there (and those trips were just fine). But for the first time ever, we ordered the “small steak” and it was absolutely phenomenal. A dream steak. Aged to perfection, a wonderful broiled taste, cooked exactly the way I ordered it – medium. Juicy, savory. The lady who runs the place told me she goes to Manhattan to specially get those shell steaks.
I’ve never had a better steak in my life, including every other visit to Peter Luger. And also for the first time, I had the French fries which come with it (it costs $31). They were spectacular. Crisp on the outside, juicy inside, the French fries’ French fry. They go in the Pantheon. Food doesn’t get any better than this. I wouldn’t trade this one meal at Luger for unlimited dining at all the trendy Per Se’s in the world.

Peter Luger epitomizes a steakhouse in terms of the look and the meat. When you go, the Porterhouse and potatoes are must-order items, but this sounds like a good option.
