Restaurant Sign Long Beach

The straightforward name doesn’t exactly set high expectations, but Long Beach Thai Restaurant more than transcends strip mall surroundings thanks to standout noodle soups.

It’s always sunny at Long Beach Thai Restaurant thanks to bright orange walls. Homesick Thai people and Long Beachers with wanderlust will appreciate Thailand photos.

Thai Food Long Beach
BBQ Duck Noodles ($6.50) could easily compete with what you’d find in L.A.’s Thai Town. A murky brown broth hosts fat-rimmed roast duck slices, thin vermicelli-like noodles, sprouts, cilantro and lingering kick.

Thai Food Long Beach
Thai Boat Noodles ($6.50) are Scottie Pippen level co-stars. This bowl packs more punch and hosts plenty of fun proteins, including sliced beef, firm beef balls, intestine, and tripe. Yes, LBTR staffers will bring extra offal if customers ask.

Most other menu items are standard issue, but at least LBTR does noodle soups well.

Thai Drink Long Beach
“Looking for something new to try?” So begins the tabletop sales pitch for rosella, a sweet-tart and (and quite purple) beverage made using hibiscus.

Thai Food Long Beach
Sweet Rice with Mango ($6) rests in plastic containers on the counter when in season and comes with sweetened condensed milk and mung beans. They also carry a durian version.

A counter full of tempting impulse buys strategically placed by the register also includes a green drink with basil seeds and containers of raw pork “ceviche” with minced onion, garlic, lime juice and Thai green chilies.
