L.A. BEER FLOAT SHOWDOWN II

Last year, The Golden State teamed with Scoops to vanquish BottleRock LA + MILK in the first ever L.A. Beer Float Showdown. Now Boneyard Bistro, Ladyface Alehouse and Simmzy’s have stepped up to challenge the defending champs. On October 10, as part of L.A. Beer Week, Food GPS presents L.A. Beer Float Showdown II. Four teams will converge on Verdugo Bar to create culinary fireworks, and the bar that emerges as the victor is up to you.

According to Bar Manager Rory Snipes, “New draft beers this week include: Pliny the Elder, Bruery Trade Winds Tripel, Ballast Point Longfin Lager, Mikkeller Beer Geek Bacon (Rauch), and Caracole Saxo, we also got some bottles of the Victory version of Saison du BUFF.”

THE BOTTLE ROOM

According to chef-owner Tony Alcazar, “This week we have Firestone Honey Blonde Ale, St. Feuillen Påskeøl, and brought back a classic, Delirium Tremens. Also, this week, Saturday the 18th we will kick off Oktoberfest with Avery The Kaiser, New Belgium Hoptober, and Paulaner Oktoberfest along with a brunch service on Sunday the 19th. Food items will feature Bacon Cheddar Waffles, “Pigs in a Blanket” (green chile pork wrapped in a crepe) and the bottle room breakfast burger with bacon and fried eggs. Cheers!!”

CONGREGATION ALE HOUSE

According to Beverage Director Eli Wilson, “A sampling of new and exciting beers at Congregation: Beer Valley Leafer Madness Imperial IPA, Jacobins Rouge, Rubicon Steam Beer, Koff Porter, San Diego Session Ale and the last keg of BrewDog Tokyo, an 18% ABV Imperial Stout, served in 6oz Snifters. Come try this massive brew while it’s still available!”

According to yesterday’s update from general manager Matthew Kaner, “Fuller’s Honey Dew and Victory Storm King Stout are on deck!”

THE DAILY PINT

Phil McGovern’s Santa Monica bar recently added draught beers like
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, San Diego County Session Ale, Van de Kaizer Oktober, Stone Cali-Belgique IPA, Green Flash West Coast IPA, and on cask, Stone Pale Ale with coriander and Stone Arrogant Bastard with American oak.

FIFTH AMENDMENT ALEHOUSE

According to co-owner Eden Noe, “We have Dogfish Head Festina Pêche Berlinweisse, Seadog Blueberry, Old World Hefeweizen, Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Union jack IPA, and Double Daddy IPA.”

THE GOLDEN STATE

According to co-owner Jason Bernstein, new beers include Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian-style IPA, North Coast Old Rasputin, Bootlegger’s Knuckle Sandwich double IPA, AleSmith Grand Cru, Drake’s 1500 pale ale, 2009 Lost Abbey Serpent’s Stout, Craftsman 1903, Eagle Rock Populist IPA and New Belgium Belgo IPA. On deck, The Golden State has Craftsman Triple White Sage and Bootlegger’s Golden Chaos, a Belgian style tripel.

LADYFACE ALEHOUSE & BRASSERIE

According to manager Robyn Britton, “Named for the traditional Scottish ale made with heather blossoms and hops, our Cast of the Week is “Meadowsweet”, a heather-tip-infused Griffin Saison. Ladyface IPA is back, joined by Palo Comado XPA, our first wet-hopped harvest ale, La Blonde, Trois Filles Tripel, Picture City Porter, and Griffin Saison.

Guest ales on tap include Ballast Point Abandon Ship Smoked Lager and Longfin Lager, Kern River Just Outstanding IPA, Stone San Diego County Session, Bear Republic XP Pale Ale, Professor Fitz’s 1809, Moylan’s Hopsickle, La Chouffe Houblon, Anderson Valley Imperial IPA and Oskar Blue’s Mama’s Lil Yellow Pils. LUCKY BALDWIN’S DELIRIUM CAFE

According to staffer Jamie, Lucky Baldwin’s eastern outpost will begin featuring Oktoberfest beers on Saturday. The festival will run through October 3, possibly longer. Since last Thursday, they’ve added Sam Adams Octoberfest, Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest, Spaten Oktoberfest, Belhaven Scottish Ale, New Belgium Ranger IPA and Craftsman Poppyfields.

NAJA’S PLACE

According to assistant manager Martin Svab, “Here is the latest scoop for this week: Drakes Brewing promo tonight from 8pm till 10pm. We’ll feature three great hop bombs from this kick ass little Northern Cal brewery: Hopocalypse Double IPA. Bass Ackwards IPA and Aroma Priela IPA.

Other goodies on tap: Russian River Temptation, Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale, Avery White Rascal and Ballast Point Sculpin IPA.”

THE SURLY GOAT

Andrew Kelley spotlights a trio of beers that are now on tap at The Surly Goat: Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Russian River Blind Pig and Eagle Rock Red Velvet, with a special cask of Ballast Point Sculpin IPA (dry hopped with Columbus and Warrior hops).

On deck: Firestone Walker Walker’s Reserve, Rogue John John Juniper Ale and Eagle Rock Solidarity (on Nitro).

According to yesterday’s update from manager Paige Reilly, “Are you heading out to GABF per chance? I leave tomorrow morning! SO EXCITED!!! I may be away, but the beer will still play (huh?)!
