THE GOLDEN STATE/SCOOPS vs. BOTTLEROCK LA/MILK IN L.A. BEER FLOAT SHOWDOWN

On July 26 at 3:30 PM, come to Blue Palms Brewhouse and help to choose a champion in the first L.A. Beer Float Showdown. Everybody who attends is allowed to vote on two beer floats from each competitor. Four total. 8 ounces each. A score sheet will allow every attendee to judge the beer floats according to flavor, originality and presentation. Tickets cost $23 if you RSVP to [email protected] by July 25. Day-of admission is $28. Pay at the door. Proceeds benefit 826LA.

THE BENDER WITH EAGLE ROCK BREWERY OWNER JEREMY RAUB

Jeremy Raub and father Steve should open Eagle Rock Brewery (in Glassell Park) by mid-September. While Jeremy still has spare time, it seemed like a good idea to take him on a tour of the San Gabriel Valley’s best beer bars to get his impressions on particular beers and the bars themselves. Beachwood BBQ owner Gabriel Gordon streams his 24-tap blackboard menu via HOP CAM. Some of Gordon’s latest brews include Speakeasy Barrel Aged Hunters Point Porter, Alaskan Smoked Porter, Amigo Lager Unfiltered, Victory Whirlwind Wit and Avery Ellis Brown Ale.

On Tuesday night, proprietor Brian Lenzo said all of the beers on his “On Deck” board would be online by this weekend, including Stone 13 Anniversary Ale, Brother Thelonious, Grand Teton IPA, Shipyard XXXX IPA and two beers from St. Feuillien: Saison and La Blance. Lenzo said he’ll have Speakeasy night the last week of July, featuring a red carpet and 12-14 options on tap, including barrel aged beers. The one-year anniversary will be on August 8.

According to resident beer expert Alex Macy, Port Hop 15 and AleSmith IPA should be on tap soon.

According to LA Beer Geek David Stickel: Daily Pint is tapping Stone 13th Anniversary tomorrow at 6 PM. Also received some Hobgoblin, and in bottles they got in some St. Peter Sorghum Ale especially for people with Gluten allergies. Just tapped Victory Golden Monkey and finishing Weihenstephan Vitus Wheat Bock and Alaskan Smoked Porter.

Co-owner Jason Bernstein just picked up a case of 12-year Old Rasputin. He says, “Old Rasputin + Bourbon = Smoother. It’s almost devoid of bitterness.” He also scored bottles of Lost Abbey Carnaval, their saison. He should tap a keg of Stone 13 Anniversary over the weekend.

For now, they have Russian River Consecration, Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale, St. Feuillien Saison, Koningshoezen Quad, a Belgian quadrupel “buried in malts and fruitiness.

Every month, Sam Samaniego and wife Marlene feature a different brewery on their nine taps. For July, it’s Coronado Brewing Co., including Four Brothers Pale Ale, Lime Light Wit, Mermaid Red Ale, Islandweizen Hefeweizen, Orange Avenue Ale, Golden Ale, Islander IPA, Idiot Double IPA and Bourbon Barrel Red Devil Imperial Red Ale.
