The Kitchen @ Westwood has slowly become a semi-regular part of my Westwood rotation. Turkey natives Huseyin Ilhan and wife Hava previously proved their skill with döner and dips, and I recently enjoyed their off-menu yogurt drink.
Ayran ($2) is a tangy, frothy beverage crafted with yogurt, water, salt, and if you like, dried mint. The drink also goes by doogh in countries like Armenia, Lebanon, and several stans (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan).
They also have some of the Westside’s best baklava, made with Gaziantep’s famed bright green pistachios. Hava Ilhan said thaat in northern Turkey, this combo is common. Give into tradition.
