Greenhouse Ginger Beer [CLOSED]

Soda Los Angeles

For a juice bar, Greenhouse is fairly ambitious. The Original Farmers Market stall from vaunted bartender Jason Bran and business partner John Chae sells a variety of juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, and produce. For months, Bran worked to develop house-made ginger beer, which is now available on draft. Bran aand Chae also run a NoHo Arts District spinoff with Chris Wilson.

Ginger beer is a non-alcoholic, carbonated beverage that’s long been popular in countries like Australia and England and displays a spice level that spans from punchy to incendiary. Greenhouse sells 12 ounces for $4.99 and 16 ounces for $5.99. Bran explained his approach, saying his goal was to “make something that wasn’t too hot for people that haven’t had straight ginger juice before, but still put emphasis on ginger.” He combines fresh-squeezed lemon juice with cold-pressed ginger root, lemongrass, rosemary, and cane sugar. “The rosemary creates a dry, crisp finish that offsets the sweetness (especially when carbonated correctly!)” House-made ginger beer isn’t easy to find in Los Angeles. The satisfying result at Greenhouse is well-balanced, judiciously sweet, and highly refreshing.

Note: Greenhouse will undergo a remodel. After a late December re-launch, expect a wider ginger beer variety, plus cans.
