Fol Epi Bakery Sausage Roll

Bakery Victoria

Fol Epi Bakery is a versatile Victoria bakery. Their repertoire includes flaky wonders like a sausage roll.

The British Empire of course has had a lasting impact on global culture. Not many people outside of the U.K. would celebrate many lingering effects. That said, some popular British food items have proliferated across the 56 Commonwealths. Meaning you can still find sausage rolls in Canada. The best version I’ve found in my limited search is available at Fol Epi Bakery. This downtown Victoria spinoff from baker Cliff Leir opened next to sister restaurant Agrius in November 2015. Leir is building on the success of his original Old School bakery across Johnson Street Bridge.

Leir is one of North America’s most talented bakers. At Fol Epi Bakery, he harnesses a wood-fired oven in Dockside Green to produce amazing Viennoiserie and bread. His house recipe sausage rolls ($5) tasted old school in the best ways. Flaky, buttery pastry swaddles a juicy, crumbly pork sausage like a coddled pig wrapped in a blanket of dreams.

Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.
