Darren Weiss adds a compelling bar menu at his eponymous restaurant. [Wen Chang]

Darren Weiss recently instituted a bar menu at Darren’s Restaurant in Manhattan Beach. 11 options include Shrimp Mini Tostadas ($15) – pan-flashed Peruvian marinated white Mexican shrimp with mango ragout and cilantro-jalapeño remoulade; Hawaiian Ahi Poke ($16) – diced ahi tossed with mild soy sauce, sweet onions, seaweed salad, wasabi tobiko and fried yam chips; poached Bartlett pear ($11) – vanilla poached pear with endive, spiced pumpkin candied pecans and Granny Smith apple vinaigrette; and Sweet and Spicy Lobster Chowder ($14) with sweet potato, shiitake mushroom, sweet corn and thick coconut broth.

The bar menu is half-price all night Monday, Tuesday to Saturday from 5 PM – 6:30 PM, Tuesday to Thursday from 9 PM to close and Friday & Saturday from 9:30 PM to close.
