Culture Brewing Sour Medley

Craft Beer San Diego

Culture Brewing did not hold back with Sour Medley, a tart Berliner Weisse, at their Solana Beach outpost.

Sure, people flock to North Park to drink craft beer, but San Diego County now has destinations at almost every turn. For instance, Culture Brewing Co. is located in surf-friendly Solana Beach, in the Cedros Avenue Design District. The airy space features tanks, concrete walls lined with pop art and skateboards, and a wood-fenced patio. Steve Raganm the multi-talented brewmaster and designer, teamed with John Niedernhofer and Dennis Williams in February, 2013, and the trio already expanded south in November 2014 to Ocean Beach.

One frequent benefit of drinking craft beer at the source is the ability to taste a number of beers. Culture Brewing sells tasters for $2 apiece, or less, including some knockout IPAs and my favorite pour of the day: Sour Medley. This tart Berliner Weisse clocks 3.8% ABV and tastes like apple cider vinegar. They advertise a “blend of apple, grape and cherry fruit flavors,” which could either mean fresh fruit or extracts. Either way, on a warm wind-swept day, I can see drinking a bucket’s worth of this beer within shouting distance of the beach.
