Unfortunately, the restaurant business sees regular casualties.

Restaurant closures are inevitable, but it’s never easy for the employees and investors. Los Angeles communities just suffered three closures spanning from Century City to the San Gabriel foothills.

On Sunday, the Westfield Century City Mall stripped signage for Savannah, and the patio was bare. Today, the line at the Burbank location was disconnected. Both locations had only been open since February 18. Guess David Wilhelm’s Southern-accented concept didn’t take hold in Los Angeles, but he still has Orange County branches in Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach and Laguna Niguel.

This morning, I drove by Canadian Café in Monrovia and the storefront was empty. Ontario natives Ron Babcock and wife Diane had run the Canadian-themed restaurant since June 2004. Now where will Angelenos go for poutine, the notorious Quebec specialty that combines French fries, brown gravy and white cheddar cheese curds?

just drove by Canadian Cafe in Monrovia to pick up some Tim Horton’s coffee and it was GONE!! Where can I go for the world’s best coffee locally ?? not to mention one of the best burgers I’ve had since I have lived down here, some great Chalet Chicken ?? and awesome hospitality!!! This Cafe will be greatly missed.

Figured I might have been late on Savannah, but I don’t get over to that mall very often, so it’s new to me.

Yep, Wilhelm closed the Savannahs in August and filed for Chapter 11

They can head to The Alibi Room in Mar Vista. They serve yummy poutine!
