Adams Coffee Shop doesn’t look like other local coffeehouses. The new neighborhood hangout from award-winning Bay Area based chef Daniel Patterson and Alta Group in evolving West Adams has colorful lounge seating, art and booked lined walls, a large communal wood table with black metal stools. Baristas have access to a record player and crates filled with vinyl LPs. I’d like to believe that a business can’t survive on looks alone. Adams Coffee Shop doesn’t have to rely on aesthetics thanks to a coffee program featuring Coffee Manufactory beans, a full pastry case, and thoughtful juices.
Fountain of Roots ($7) is a vivid purple drink served over ice that’s crafted with earthy beets and carrots. Baristas balance with tangy yogurt and a one-two punch of ginger and horseradish that delivers a lingering spice kick.
