Food GPS Lamb Showdown

The Food GPS Lamb Showdown is taking place on Monday, February 20. Walter Manzke from upcoming Republique and Factory Baking Company is battling Zach Pollack & Steve Samson, the chefs and co-owners of Sotto. Guests will enjoy six-course meal, with the talented chefs going head-to-head on four savory courses featuring American lamb, and two desserts starring sheep’s milk dairy. Every diner gets a vote on which chef delivers the boldest flavor, most originality, and best presentation. The winning chef earns $500, and of course greater glory. Eagle Rock Brewery will be pouring three beers for each guest throughout the course of the dinner, and 15% of event proceeds benefit the Special Olympics. The Lamb Showdown starts at 7:30 p.m. and the location is Guelaguetza in Koreatown.

We’re kicking things off on the 15th with Local Bitterness Night. We’ll have a tap wall full of local hoppiness along with some of the people who brewed it. Not to mention some special food items with flavors robust enough to stand up to all those hops. On the 21st, we welcome Pizza Port and some of their hoppy goodness, with 10% of the day’s sales going to the Ocean Park Volleyball Foundation.

Also, we’ll be selling raffle tickets for Pliny Fights Cancer through the 18th with winners drawn on the 20th. It’s your best chance for some stress-free Pliny the Younger…This year, we wanted to allow our loyal customers to avoid the Pliny the Younger madness. When our friends down at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach and Long Beach announced that they were raffling the beer off for charity, we loved the idea. So, in cooperation with Beachwood, we’re getting in on it too. Come to the Alehouse between February 3rd and February 18th and purchase as many raffle tickets as you like for $5 each, cash only. Proceeds from the raffle will go to The Melanoma Research Foundation in Memory of Tony Carbone. Raffle winners will be guaranteed the right to purchase one of 50 glasses of Pliny the Younger at the Alehouse from February 21st through March 1st for every winning ticket they hold. (Purchase price being a mere 25 cents) Winners will be drawn on February 20th and notified by email. The only limit on how many times you can win is the amount of beer we have, so buying more tickets increases your chances and your donation to a worthy cause.”
