This week in Brew & You, a survey of the beer scene in the SE of America and a request to help those in craft beer need in Mississippi as well as a beer of the week from the NW version of The Bruery Head South For Craft Beer.

According to Echo Park bar owner Elizabeth Fischbach, “On tap is Great Divide Hibernation, Drakes 1500, Anderson Valley Oatmeal Stout and North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner. Allagash Black and Port Brewing Shark Attack are ready to go as soon as I tap out a couple of kegs.”

Beachwood BBQ

Beachwood chef-owner Gabe Gordon currently features draught beers such as TAPS Dopplebock, Firestone Walker Double Jack, Ballast Point Sextant Oatmeal Stout, De Struise Rosse and Black Diamond’s Grand Cru. Track changes to Beachwood BBQ’s 24-tap menu via Hop Cam.

Blue Palms Brewhouse

Blue Palms is currently pouring Russian River’s Pliny the Elder, Ballast Point’s Barmy Ale, Victory’s Braumeister pils and Hop Sauce and Rosebud from Rubicon Brewing. amongst many others. AND you can taste Brian Lenzo’s Outta Town Brown Ale made with Sierra Nevada. Track Changes to Blue Palms Brewhouse’s 24-tap menu.

BoHo

According to Chris Sobolewski, the beer dude at BoHo, “New beers this week include the ‘Stella Killer’ Maes Pils, Ommegang Belgian Style Pale Ale and the classic Delirium Tremens. BoHo has great things on the horizon, so stay tuned!”

The Bottle Room

New on Tap: Brasserie Caracole Saxo (Belgian Pale-8%) and Telegraph Reserve Wheat Ale (Ltd. Release Wild Ale-5%).

Broadway Alehouse

According to co-owner Eden Noe, “Vrienden by New Belgium and Allagash brewing, Deschutes Imperial Stout, Guinness, Black Diamond Rampage Double IPA, Duvel Green, Delirium Tremens, Allagash Curiuex, Greenflash IPA, Moylans Pale, Stone Pale Ale, Bootleggars Hefeweizen, Lost Abbey Judgment Day, Hollywood Red Ale, Woodchuck Green Apple Cider, St Bernardus Noel.”

Congregation Ale House

According to Beverage Director Eli Wilson, “On Wednesday Feb 2nd at 7PM, Matt Wilson of Ballast Point Brewery joins us for a night of great libations! Come and taste 5 different BP brews including Sea Monster Stout, Sculpin on cask, Tongue Buckler Imperial Red & others. As custom, Congregation will give a Ballast Point Brewery pint glass to the first 25 orders of Calico Amber after 7PM.”

The Daily Pint

Since last Thursday, Phil McGovern’s iconic Santa Monica bar has added Firestone Walker Reserve Porter, Lost Abbey Angel’s Share and Stone Levitation Amber with Amarillo hops.

Eagle Rock Brewery

Get a growler fill or stop in for a pint at Eagle Rock Brewing. Great food trucks this weekend include The Buttermilk Truck tonight, Mandoline Grill on Friday and No Jodas Cuban on Saturday.

Jill Flomenhoft recently debuted Bangers & Smashed, a gourmet mashed potato concept. She promises “potato anarchy” with options like Red Flannel Smashed, which includes beets, bacon, caramelized onion and rosemary. They’ll be at Eagle Rock Brewery on January 30 from Noon – 6 PM, featuring four food and beer pairings, including ERB Manifesto with Moroccan Spiced Squash.

The Factory

According to co-owner Eric Gutenkauf, the current draught beer list includes “New Belgium Vrienden CollaBEERation, Stone’s Double Dry Hopped Arrogant Bastard and Sublimely Self Righteous, Bootlegger’s Mint Chocolate Porter, Deschutes Abyss Imperial Stout and Beer Valley Black Flag Imperial Stout.

Also freshly tapped are the first two combatants in our IPA Tournament: Mission IPA and Green Flash West Coast IPA. Over the next few months, 32 IPAs divided into 4 brackets will slug it out in a customer blind tasting to determine The Factory Gastrobar IPA Champion. Come on in and pick your favorite!

And for all dog lovers, The Factory Gastrobar will be hosting Pints for Pit Bulls on Saturday, February 19, to support the Pit Bull Rescue Association. Big thanks to Bootleggers Brewery for their sponsorship of this great cause.”

The Golden State

According to The Golden State co-owner James Starr, draught beers include Ballast Point Sculpin, Old Rasputin, Firestone Walker Union Jack, Russian River Consecration, Craftsman’s 1903 and Aurora Borealis, Drake’s Jolly Rodger and 1500 and Espresso Yeti from Great Divide.

Ladyface Ale Companie

According to Ladyface rep Robyn Britton, “First Anniversary Week at Ladyface continues. All taps are pouring a rotating list of the 24 regular, seasonal and special brews we’ve created throughout the year. Tonight, Thursday, January 27th a keg of Cabernet Barrel-aged La Cerise Kriekbier goes on, then Friday, January 28th Cabernet Barrel-aged Weizenbock, and Saturday, January 29th Chardonnay Barrel-aged Oude Blonde.

New releases Russian Lullaby Imperial Stout and Ladyface 1st Anniversary Ale, a Belgian Quad, as well as special ales Justin Isosceles Barrel-aged Blue-Belly Barleywine, Chardonnay Barrel-aged Tripel, Derailleur Bier-de-garde, Weizenbock, Griffin Saison, Blue-Belly Barleywine and La Trappistine Dubbel and Barrel Picture City Porter join our regular ales in the tap lineup. The Cask of the Week, straight from the firkin, is “Vanilla Smoked Stout”, our Russian Lullaby with hints of vanilla and liquid smoke. Cheers!”

Library Alehouse

According to General Manager Tom Kelley, a certified cicerone, “Exciting new drafts at Alehouse are Stone Sublimely Self Righteous, Jolly Pumpkin Maracaibo Especial, Anchor Porter, New Belgium/Allagash Vrienden, Cismontane Double Rainbow IPA, St. Bernardus X-mas, and Rodenbach Grand Cru. Still have some drips of Sierra Celebration left, and when that is gone we are backed up with Glissade.”

Also, on February 9th we are hosting a pairing dinner with Jace
Milstead and Firestone Walker for our release of 14.

Lucky Baldwin’s Delirium Cafe

Lucky Baldwin’s eastern outpost has added Lost Coast’s Doubl Trouble double IPA, Lucifer, Port Brewing’s Old Viscosity, Pliny the Elder and the Easter beer from St. Feuillien.

Naja’s Place

According to Assistant Manager Martin Svab, new draft beers at Naja’s Place include Telegraph Winter, Hobgoblin, Fireman’s Brewnette, Ballast Point Calico Amber, Blanche de Bruxsells, Moose Drool, Marston’s Oyster Stout (nitro) and Karl Strauss Woody Gold.

Russian River Brewing
In honor of the release of Pliny the Younger, we will host an evening featuring the following Russian River beers: RR Pliny the Elder, RR Pliny the Younger, RR Blind Pig IPA, RR IPA, RR Damnation, RR Redemption, RR Consecration (Batch: June 1,2 ’10) and RR Temptation (Batch: July 19, ’10). “The exact date is yet to be announced. The Oinkster

According to Tuesday night’s update from assistant manager Josh Salinas, “We have a limited amount of Great Divide Belgica, a Belgian IPA. With the super awesome Deschuttes Red Chair NWPA on deck. Also on tap this weekend is Bootleggers Old World Hefe, TAPS Dunkel, Craftsman 1903 Lager, Eagle Rock Solidarity, and Moylans Tipperary Pale Ale.”

Rock & Brews

According to yesterday’s update from Brandon Halvorson, who runs the beer program at Dave Furano and Michael Zislis’ El Segundo biergarten, “This week we got: Jolly Pumpkin’s Calabaza Blanca, Houblon Chouffe, Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence, Alesmith Speedway Stout, and we have a limited amount of Lost Abbey Bourbon Angel’s Share on tap. Also on tap we have Gordons Imperial Red, Strands 24th St and Beach House Amber, Big Bear Stout, Mam’s Lil Pils, and Stone Ruination. In bottles we have Avery Dugana, Alesmith Horny Devil, St. Bernardus ABT 12, and Delerium Tremens. We’re currently taking reservations for our Super Bowl party: call 310-615-9890.”

SideBar

According to yesterday’s update from Jace Milstead, a certified cicerone who’s consulting on the beer list, “Hey now! SideBar. is now open 6pm, 7 days a week. M-F 6-8 $4 draft beers. It’s getting crazy, as we’re pouring more and more draft. We’re starting a Glendale revolution and as always we have the best beer list in Glendale. Got some Great Divide coming up along with Eagle Rock Solidarity (nitro), not to mention Knuckle Sandwich right now.”

Simmzy’s

According to manager Micah Schiesel, “If you come down quickly you can get a pint of Stone’s Double Dry Hopped IPA, this is one of the only kegs in Los Angeles and it is so good. Lagunitas seasonal release, Little Sumpin Wild, Ommegang’s Three Philosophers are all on draft already, and on Thursday we will be tapping into Craftsman’s Aurora Borealis.” Track Changes to Simmzy’s tap list.

Stuffed Sandwich

(Only a few more days to check out) For the month of January, Marlene Samaniego and husband Sam are featuring Porters and Stouts on tap, including Victory Storm King Imperial Stout (2009), Avery Out of Bounds Stout (2009), Dogfish Head Chicory Stout, Abita Vanilla Porter, North Coast Old #38 Stout, Gentleman Scholar Requiem Espresso Vanilla Stout, Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout (2009), BrewDog Tokyo Imperial Stout and Stone Smoked Porter brewed with vanilla beans.

The Surly Goat

According to Andrew Kelley at the Surly Goat, “Highlights on Draft: Gift of the Magi – The Lost Abbey (Biere de Garde w/ Frankincense and Myrrh), Espresso Oak-Aged Yeti – Great Divide (Imperial Stout) and Sudwerk Doppel Bock.

On Deck: St. Feuillien Noel (Belgian Strong Dark Ale), Aurora Borealis – Craftsman (Wheatwine), Red Devil – Coronado (Imperial Red Ale) and Hoptimum – Sierra Nevada (Triple IPA).

The Craft Beer Chronicles

Today, Brand X contributor Steven Armstrong shared his latest installment of The Craft Beer Chronicles, titled 2011 brings hoppy news from the team at Eagle Rock Brewery.

Last Friday, Armstrong shared What’s on tap for the upcoming Beachwood BBQ & Brewing. He visits Seal Beach to speak with chef-owner Gabe Gordon, who’s getting ready to open a 5000-square-foot brewpub in Long Beach, complete with 12 taps devoted to brewmaster Julian Shrago’s “‘hop-forward’ brews, with another twenty-four dedicated to a steady rotation of guest beers.”
