Craft Beer Los Angeles

Blue Palms Brewhouse always goes big for their anniversary in Hollywood.

There are three big anniversary parties coming as summer heats up in Los Angeles and the best way to celebrate is with craft beer!

In two days, on the 29th, Beachwood Brewing and BBQ in Long Beach will be marking 2 years of making award winning beers with some of the best beer names around (Hef Leppard, Clear and Present Manger for the Christmas holiday and numerous “hop” puns like Hopular Mechanics).

Brewmaster Julian Shrago has created a full range of beers from oatmeal stouts to cream ales to enough bitter West-Coast IPA’s to make a hophead cry mercy.  As the Beachwood event calendar states, “Try some of the 25+ Beachwood beers available (not to mention stellar local guest beers on tap too) and food specials.” And you can grab some of their bottles (or a growler) to go too!

Then in mid August you will need to gird yourself for a long craft beer weekend or make a tough decision.

Saturday, August 10, at 38 Degrees in Alhambra, the Full Pint craft beer website will be throwing a bash to celebrate six years of covering craft beer in Southern California.  There is no tap list available yet but there is room for 38 beers and that means there will be plenty of Full Pints on hand.

The very next day on Sunday, August 11, Blue Palms Brewhouse celebrates five years on Hollywood Boulevard. Brian Lenzo always seems to find hidden gems and lots of them.  Last year, 80 kegs were rolled out into the parking lot but Lenzo could wow you with only half that amount.  Make sure to buy your tickets sooner rather than later because as the event gets closer, the price goes up.  And it will be much more fun to monitor the expanding tap list when it debuts knowing that you have a ticket in hand.

Moving to September, The Factory Gastrobar in Bixby Knolls is now two and they have set the date for their now Annual Drink Good Beerfest!  This year it will be on Saturday, September 14!!

As they explain, “Like last year, the theme of the festival is to pour local, rare and unique beers.” And to add to the culinary that is also a focus of The Factory, their will be beer education as well.

Now that your calendar has a couple weekends marked up, it is time to highlight one more. And this is the BIG ONE. The 5th L.A. Beer Week will be happening from September 19 – 29 and there are changes afoot.  he closing festival at Union Station is now the L.A. Beer Week Opening festival.  And it is inside Union Station now! Now Los Angeles can kick off our very own beer week in style.

Your Beer of the Week comes from Las Vegas, Nevada.  Tenaya Creek is new to the SoCal scene but a long time supplier of craft beers to our neighboring state.  And now you can pick up their Old Jackalope barley wine. As their website describes it, “This rich and complex ale uses a variety of malts and hops to balance what we think is one ultimate beer. Share it with friends, savor it with colleagues, or stash it away for a future occasion. This ale will keep for months, or years if you manage to resist the temptation.”

Your Homework is to log in and check out the new beer seller BeerBoxer, “a premium monthly beer club powered by Let’s Pour.” They have two monthly plans. One that offers up 6 bombers and larger format bottles and one that sends you 12 smaller 12oz bottles and cans. They have beers from Oakshire, Brooklyn, Odells, Upslope and Cigar City. It just might make a great present for the beer geek in your life.
