Góc Ha Noi Corner Corn Milk

Vietnamese Drink Orange County

Corn milk was new to me, but Góc Ha Noi Corner's corn, milk, and cinnamon mix made a lasting impression.

Góc Ha Noi Corner is a northern Vietnamese restaurant in Garden Grove that Ha Noi natives debuted to end 2016. The corner space north of the 22 freeway features a stone facade, brick wallpaper, cushioned black booths and banquettes, and a giant gold toad by the register.

Their beverage menu includes plenty of drinks that are trending in Little Saigon, including iced tea with sea salt cream, milk teas, Vietnamese iced coffee, and either jasmine or black tea topped with “Hokkaido cream.” That last option, sua bap, translates from Vietnamese as “corn milk.” This frothy shaken beverage was new to me and tasted naturally sweet. Góc Ha Noi Corner mixed “milked” corn with whole milk, poured into a Mason jar and dusted with cinnamon. Unlike some other potentially cloying beverages on the menu, judiciously sweet corn milk actually paired fairly well with Vietnamese food’s spicy, sour, salty flavors.
