Tax Return = Drink Time

Wine Advice

Today I was surprised to find that two days earlier than expected the Federal Government had direct deposited my Federal Tax Return, thanks Uncle Sam! And like the good little consumer that I am, the first thing I did was wake up early and make the trek to two of my favorite wine stores aside from the one I work for: Woodland Hills Wine Company and Wades Wine. I found many things of interest, mostly interesting to me was the appearance of slashed prices! Wines that fetched high prices in a better economy are now marked down and “priced to move”. Not everything, mind you…but a pretty critical mass of wines over $50 looked to have been marked down significantly. This is a good time to be a cash heavy consumer! Spring for a Single Malt Scotch, a Barolo with a little bottle age. Go buy a TV at Circuit City, they’re going out of business and everything is 20-50% off.

Now I have to admit, I am kind of obsessed with wine stores. Seeing as I’ve spent almost all of my time the last 4 years within four walls of businesses that sell wine, I absolutely love to go to other wine stores and see their selection, layout, and approach. What exactly am I recommending here? Well, I think we should spend our hard earned Tax Return on BOOZE! Treat yourself to a Single Malt Scotch, an aged Barolo, a fancy California Pinot Noir, or maybe even something you’ve had before but loved and are nostalgic for. More than anything, show your support for local businesses that have your best interest in mind.

We’re all going to continue drinking, that is not going to stop. I’ve heard it said that, “In good times people drink. In bad times people drink more.” and boy is it true. Go out and treat yourself.

I intend to drain my tax return at one place: Silver Lake Wine. And yes, that means perhaps buying your best bottle of champagne, a single malt scotch, maybe some tequila, and a couple of bottles from the “back” wall of the good stuff for aging 🙂
