Q&A with brewmaster Dann Paquette (Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project)

Dann Paquette started brewing professionally in the Boston area beginning in 1992. While living in Yorkshire, England, he and wife Martha found the inspiration to open their own brewery. They moved back across the Atlantic Ocean to Boston, where Martha is now an MIT scientist while Dann leads the couple’s brewhouse – Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project. Click Here to Learn More

Blue Palms Brewhouse

On Saturday, June 11, Blue Palms will host their 2nd Annual Ultimate Brown Bag Brunch, a unique beer festival featuring 24 great craft beers on draft, all served “Brown Bag Style”– with brown paper bags covering the tap handles and concealing their identities.

BoHo

From Chris Sobolewski, the beer dude at BoHo, “New on draft this week: To celebrate the release of Stone Imperial Russian Stout, BoHo is having Stone Week. Going along with the IPA and Arrogant Bastard, we have both of this year’s Imperial Stout releases: IRS & Belgo Anise IRS. And to top it all off we have some IRS 2010. Other fare includes Unibroue Raftman, Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen Weisse and Dogfish Head 90 Minute. ”

Boneyard Bistro

According to bar manager Rory Snipes, “New beers this week include Cismontane Black’s Dawn Stout, Telegraph Reserve Wheat, Saison Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux, Caracole Saxo, Russian River Pliny the Elder, Allagash Odyssey, and Lost Abbey Serpent’s Stout…good drinking!”

The Bottle Room

According to chef-owner Tony Alcazar, “Sunday is “Praise the Lard” with Craftsman Brewing. We will roast 3 whole suckling pigs and serve em up with Smoked Mac n Cheese and Hash-Gratins. Craftsman will provide his new Citrus Saison, Barrel Aged Fireworks and 4 Cylinder.

On the taps this week: The Bruery Cuir, Trade Winds Tripel, Piraat, Hop Henge, and Double Dry Hopped Ruination.

Congregation Ale House

According to Beverage Director Eli Wilson, “Tuesday we had a very successful Grand Teton event, so come try a pint of whatever’s left! Beers on deck or just tapped in: Aphrodite, Port 5th Anniversary IPA, Chau Tien, Palo Santo Marron, and Allagash Confluence. Come drop in and say hello!”

The Daily Pint

Since last Thursday, Phil McGovern’s iconic Santa Monica bar has added New on cask: Stone Arrogant Bastard w/American Oak & Ruination Dbl IPA w/ Amarillo Hops to their beer list.

Eagle Rock Brewery

On tap beer wise are Solidarity, Manifesto, Equinox, Revolution and Populist. Last night they introduced a fennel version of Manifesto. On the Food truck front, Friday brings Danky’s Doners and Saturday, Grill ‘em All will be out front.

The Factory

Pouring in Long Beach at the Factory is New Belgium Ranger IPA, Grand Teton Idaho Pale Ale, Bear Republic Apex and Sierra Nevada Bigfoot barley wine.

The Golden State

At The Golden State, draught beers include “Victory Helios, Avery DuganA, Uinta Dubhe Black IPA, New Belgium Grand Cru, Iron Fist Gauntlet, Port Anniversary, Bruery Tradewinds Tripel and Black Market brown.”

Ladyface Ale Companie

According to Ladyface rep Robyn Britton, “Cask of the Week is “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman”, our Amazon Red with extra Cascade hops. Trois Filles Tripel is back making a total of 11 Ladyface ales on tap. Joining them are Russian River Pliny the Elder, Allagash Confluence, Bootlegger’s Anniversary Ale, Taps Barley-wine and Alesmith X.

Ladyface will be on tap this Saturday at the second ColLAboration pop-up beer garden in the parking lot next to Blue Palms in Hollywood. We’ll also be pouring Sunday at the Casa Pacifica Angels Food & Wine Festival in Camarillo. And our monthly brewery tour, led by Brewmaster Dave Griffith happens at 5:30pm Monday, June 6th. The great craft brewery from Sacramento will feature five awesome beers on draft including: Nitro Stout, Monkey Knife Fight, Purple Maibock, and an unfiltered Hop Sauce DIPA! Limited amount of cool glassware will be available.”

According to Tuesday night’s update from assistant manager Josh Salinas, “This weekend we are poring some badass brews. We will have some Cismontane Coulter IPA,El Segundo Brewing Blue House Pale, Brouwerij West Belgian Blond, Craftsman’s 1903 and Citrus Saison. We also have a Collaboration Hefewizen from Cismontane and Tustin Brewing called El Toro Trio. Come check it out.”

According to today’s update from Brandon Halvorson, who runs the beer program at Dave Furano and Michael Zislis’ El Segundo biergarten, “Tickets are going FAST for our June 5th Local Beer Festival. Confirmed breweries include Bootleggers, Eagle Rock, Strand, The Bruery, Brouwerji West, and Cismontaine among others. Some of these breweries are bringing some tasty treats including a Cask of ‘something good’ AND a keg of Cuir from the Bruery alone!

Vendome Toluca Lake’s weekly Beer Tasting is from 2-5 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Each week has a theme and this weekend you will be treated to Vintage Ales. “For this weekend’s tasting we will explore some aged beers in hopes of finding some flavor gems. The beers will have an age range from eight months to well over two years, and styles represented range from a double white ale to a kriek, albeit with plenty of barleywines in the middle.”
