Bake Sale Los Angeles

Food bloggers show they're capable of collaborative charity, and not just personal consumption.

Last fall, L.A. food bloggers united to host the first Eat My Blog charity bake sale and raised $3000 for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, a nonprofit that’s fought hunger in L.A. since 1973. Round Two will take place on the patio at the West Hollywood branch of Tender Greens from 10 AM – 4 PM, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the food bank.

“We are excited to partner with the Foodbank again, especially after visiting the facility this winter to see how the money we raised would be used,” said gas•tron•o•my and EMB founder Cathy Danh. “It was an eye-opening experience for all of us on the planning committee, and we left that day eager to make an even greater impact this time around.”

Last time, EAT MY BLOG sold out in three hours, so this go-around, the band of bloggers has upped production to 2000 different goods, including carrot cake cookie sandwiches, strawberry balsamic cake and chocolate Guinness cupcakes with bacon cream cheese frosting. Nothing costs over $4.

The EMB committee consists of Cathy Danh (gas•tron•o•my), Diana Hossfeld (Diana Takes a Bite), Laurie Moore (G-ma’s Bakery) and Anjali Prasertong (Delicious Coma). Participating blogs include Eating L.A., B-Side Blog, Ravenous Couple, Food, She Thought, My Last Bite, Mattatouille, Let Me Eat Cake, Duo Dishes, Uncouth Gourmands, Life With A Whisk and What’s Gaby Cooking.

“The majority of our bakers came on board through word of mouth,” says Danh. “I’ve received dozens and dozens of emails from Los Angeles food bloggers asking to participate. The first Eat My Blog had 35 bakers. This time around, we have over 70! In regards to restaurant and chef donations, Diana Takes a Bite was the driving force behind that front.”

This time, EAT MY BLOG tables will also be graced with donations from professional kitchens like Angeli Caffe, Chicks With Knives, Drago Centro, Scoops, Valerie Confections and Starry Kitchen.

Last year’s event was up the street at Zeke’s Smokehouse, but this year, the EMB committee members opted for Tender Greens. As Danh said, “Nothing tastes better after downing a salad than a big ‘ol bacon chocolate chip cookie!”
