FurnSaj Bakery has been one of my favorite L.A. options for falafel, shawarma, and savory Lebanese flatbreads. Dakota ($7.99 for 16 ounces, $8.99 for 20 ounces) is a particular stellar smoothie featuring an almond milk base. As Mel Succar said, “We wanted to get away from dairy. You can get that anywhere.” Banana, granola, dates, and whey protein also factor into the healthy, but hearty blend. For contrast’s sake, I added a dollar dusting of antioxidant rich turmeric.
