Week in Pictures: Chocolate, Cocktails + Consulting Chef

Lobster Baja

March 18, 2012 - Spiny lobster stood at attention for us at Carlito's Place, a restaurant that fuses Chinese, Mexican and Japanese cuisines in Rancho Pescadero.

Every week involves a steady stream of food, drinks and people. Of course not every taste or conversation is post-able, but the range of experiences is usually pretty amazing. Lucky me. Discover highlights from March 12 – 18, 2012, some of which will help to fuel full posts.

Chocolate Los Angeles

March 12, 2012Compartes Chocolatier filled a box with truffles in flavors like whiskey and coffee. Apparently Compartes and owner Jonathan Grahm aren’t just big in Brentwood; they’re also big in Japan.

Korean Food Los Angeles

March 13, 2012 – Spicy gochujang stew was previously imprisoned in a plastic container at Banchan a la Carte. I was happy to assist in its release.

Cocktail Los Angeles

March 13, 2012Giovanni Martinez had his own version of spring training at Sadie in Hollywood. We’ll see if this Pisco cocktail gets called up to the majors when he releases his spring menu. The drink involves pisco, honey, ginger, lime, orange mint, and a float of bitters.

Fish Los Angeles

March 13, 2012 – Eva chef-owner Mark Gold also started consulting at Sadie, and he hasn’t changed the menu much yet, but did shift whitefish piccata over from his restaurant on Beverly Boulevard. The piccata started as a Sunday dinner party.
