Truffle Brothers Porchetta Panino

Sandwich Los Angeles

Truffle Brothers is a new Mid-City salumeria from Italian brothers Michael and Marco Pietroiacovo, who grew up in Campobosso and supply restaurants with black and white truffles (when in season) plus other Italian imports. Look past deli cases and shelves of ingredients to find seven panini ($9.99 each) listed on a blackboard. Weekdays from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., you can order sandwiches filled with proteins like prosciutto, speck, and spicy salame – some dressed with truffle honey or truffle sauce – and sit on a planter-lined patio.

I opted for Porchetta Panino ($9.99). This wasn’t the type of rich, well-spiced specimen I’ve become accustomed to that combines crisp-skinned belly and meaty loin. Instead, this silky deli-style meat was thin-sliced, heated, and combined with sweet caramelized onions, and sharp Sardo Dolce (Pecorino) cheese on crusty bread. Each sandwich comes with a side salad of mixed greens, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and balsamic that’s far from a throwaway. I learned that it’s possible to enjoy Truffle Brothers even if you don’t like truffles.

Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.

This sounds amazing. There really is something to an incredibly crafted, simple sandwich. No extra frills, no crazy combinations, just amazing quality, put together in a remarkably smart way. This sounds like a true winner. Can’t wait to see what other magic that blackboard holds.

Exactly, Take My Shift Team. These sandwiches are straightforward and good.

That’s when you know you have a winner.
