Craft Beer California

Northwest California’s Six Rivers Brewery takes its name from a nearby National Forest that has six rivers pass through its borders: Eel River, Van Duzen River, Klamath River, Trinity River, Mad River and Smith River. Existing breweries already honor Eel River and Mad River, but Six Rivers, which is located about one mile north of Mad River in McKinleyville, takes the theme to another level. Brewmaster Carlos Sanchez produces a delectable Raspberry Lambic, which was recently on draft at Barrel Down, a downtown Los Angeles gastropub with clean design, 40 craft beers on draft, and an eagle and snake logo.

Six Rivers Brewery’s Raspberry Lambic is a pleasantly tart and judiciously sweet Belgian-style dubbel that registers 7% ABV. The reddish pink beer incorporates whole raspberries, Belgian ale yeast, Belgian candi sugar and Hallertauer hops before being aged on American oak chips. As Talking Heads frontman David Byrne said, “Take Me To River.”
