For the next two weeks, starting on April 16, all three locations from Old Pasadena to Sierra Madre to the new Trappiste pub, will be hosting a Barleywine, high alcohol and Imperial Stout Festival. Vintage Hair of the Dog and Sierra Nevada beers will be tapped at the Old Pasadena location.

Naja’s Place

According to Assistant Manager Martin Svab, “The 3rd Annual IPA Festival Kicks off TODAY, April 21st and runs one week. This is our biggest event of the year (in addition to LA Beer Week). Commemorative glassware and t-shirts will be available. Here is the line up of 50 IPAs / DIPAs / IIPAs that will be pouring. The other 12+ hop bombs (many uber-rare) will be revealed the day the festival starts. This line up does NOT include casks. Since this year we mark our 30th Anniversary… my goal is to make this the BIGGEST hop fest in SoCal. Here is a small sample of the 50+ IPA’s that will be pouring: Karl Straus Black Belgian IPA, Cistmontane Double Rainbow, Iron Fist Gauntlet, Ladyface Alehouse & Brasserie IPA, Drake’s Geyser Brau, Kern River Just Outstanding IPA, Buckbean Black Adler, Eagle Rock Populist IPA and Strand Single Hop DIPA.”

According to Tuesday night’s update from assistant manager Josh Salinas, “This weekend we are pouring Strand’s Atticus IPA, TAPS Vienna Country Lager, Bootleggers Palomino Pale Ale, Cosmic Brewing’s Hellhound Brown, Craftsman Heavenly Hefe, and Cismontane’s Anniversary Black Lager. It’s gonna be a badass weekend.”

Rock & Brews

According to today’s update from Brandon Halvorson, who runs the beer program at Dave Furano and Michael Zislis’ El Segundo biergarten, “On our 38 tap line-up this week we’re adding Idiot IPA, Marin Hefe Doppel Weis, Du Val Dieu Grand Cru and Eel River’s Earth Thirst IIPA in honor of earth day. We’re excited to announce that we’ll soon start the pre-sale for our First Annual Local Craft Beer Festival on June 5th. You can learn more details on our website http://www.RockAndBrews.com/.”

According to general manager Micah Schiesel, “Good day beer drinkers! Now that the pleasantries are finished let’s get down to business. Hands raised for hoppiness, IPA’s hooked up now and in-line to be poured in the very near future. Pliny the Elder, Port Mongo, Full Sail, Seismic IPA, Avery, Kern River Just Outstanding, Shipyard XXXX and Coronado’s Idiot IPA. If anybody is a Porter fan we are pouring Victory’s Baltic Thunder, one fine specimen of what a Baltic Porter should taste like. For the hardworking Belgian fans, we got Saison DuPont and La Trappe Quad, to go with our regular standards. Organic is all the rage if you didn’t know, we are showing our support with Eel River’s Organic Amber and following down that path we have Black Market Brown. I am also very excited to announce two upcoming brewery nights here at Steingarten LA.

The first is for Monday April 25th. Steinagrten welcomes the Firestone Walker Brewing Company for a Pint Night. We will have Fresh Union Jack IPA, the last keg of Double Jack Imperial IPA, Velvet Merlin and Pale 31. We will also be serving a freshly filled Cask of Unfiltered Double Barrel Ale and bottles of the Brewmasters Series Abacus barley Wine. Certified Cicerone Jace Milstead will be on hand from Firestone Walker to speak about the beers and to hand out brewery schwag.

Steingarten LA is also extremely excited to welcome “The Bruery” for a total tap tower takeover and five course beer pairing dinner to benefit Taste of the Nation (a non- profit working to end childhood hunger by 2015). They’re serving five unique beers paired with five unique food dishes. Brewery reps will also be on hand to speak about the beers. $10 of sale of each ticket will be dontaed to Share our Strength. The dinner starts at 7 p.m. and Tickets are $49 (tax and tip included). Tickets are available for purchase. Seating is strictly limited to 50 guests and are selling out fast so please buy your tickets ASAP. They’ll also feature five beers not paired on the dinner, including Loakal Red, Humulus Lager, Saison de Lente 2011, Mischief and an ultra rare keg of Salt of the Earth, a traditional German unfiltered wheat beer with ground coriander and salt. $1 from every beer sold at the bar goes to the charity as well.

Stuffed Sandwich

For the month of April, Marlene Samaniego and husband Sam are featuring seven beers from Rogue Brewing Company from Newport, Oregon, including John John Juniper Ale (Juniper Pale Ale aged in Spruce Gin Barrels), John John Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale (Hazelnut Brown Nectar aged in Hazelnut Spiced Rum Barrels), Mogul Madness Ale (Seasonal Winter Ale with intense citrus, hops, and hints of nuts, berries and mocha), Brutal Bitter IPA (A cross between a very Extra Special Bitter and an India Pale Ale), 21 Ale (English Style Olde Ale – John Maier has brewed 21 different beers for the last 21 years for the Oregon Brewers Festival. This is the first time the beer has been released in bottles and draft. Only 21 kegs were made – we are proud to have received one of them!), John’s Locker Stock – Charlie 1981 (This beer is named after Charlie Papazian, the father of the homebrew movement in the U.S. It’s a strong ale) and XS Russian Imperial Stout 2009 (This is from their XS series – XStra Special, XStra Strong & XStra Small (in bottles) It’s very robust with hints of chocolate and oats).

The Surly Goat

Per Andrew Kelley, draught highlights include: Marron Acidifie – The Bruery/Cigar City (Barrel-Aged Sour Brown Ale), Burton Baton – Dogfish Head (Barrel-Aged Imperial IPA), Imperial 8 Ball – Lost Coast (Imperial Stout) and Wilco Tango Foxtrot – Lagunitas (Imperial Brown Ale)

Tin Roof Bistro

The latest from Pete Shuey at Tin Roof Bistro, “On the lighter side we’ve got Oskar Blue’s Mama’s Lil Pils, Craftsman 1903 & Allagash White. For a little more hoppiness we’re pouring Strand Amber, Napa Smith Pale Ale and Dogfish Head 90 min IPA. Chimay White & Tripel Karmeliet join us from Belgium and Big Sky Moose Drool and Moylan’s Irish Red are here for something a little more mellow but delicious! On the darkside we’ve got Stone Smoked Porter and Great Divide Yeti!

Coming up in the next couple weeks we’ll be changing it all around with appearances from New Belgium, Lagunitas, Avery, Drake’s, Bootleggers, Black Market, Brouweij West & Buckbean! We’re really excited for some of these great new brews!”

Tony’s Darts Away

According to manager Paige Reilly, “CismonTAPS Saison, Sequoia Brewing Co. General Sherman IPA, Mother Earth Crucible Black IPA, Iron Fist Gauntlet, and Craftsman Honesty Ale on tap right now at TDA.

Vendome Toluca Lake

Vendome Toluca Lake’s weekly Beer Tasting is from 2-5 pm and costs $10 for 15 pours. This Saturday you will be treated to Mikkeller beers. Danish homebrewers Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Kristian Klarup Keller founded the gypsy microbrewery in 2006 and have since bottled and sold more than 100 different beers. Single hop IPAs, American style IPA/DIPAs and “unique creations” will be in effect on Saturday. Walk, bike or park your car off lot and receive a 10% discount.
